Talking Maharashtra election drama has started

The election drama has started in Maharashtra. BJP and Shiv Sena will be allys with the Dalit representative RPI party. And NCP with Congress will woo the Dalits by renaming Dadar station to Chaityabhoomi station.

Well, now NCP has gone one step ahead to prove its 'secular' credentials.

The drama has started and wonderful days are ahead for the media and breaking news junkies

NCP visits Siddhivinayak to make 'secular' rally a success
By: Varun Singh Date: 2011-06-12 Place: Mumbai

If the monsoon on Saturday drenched you and made it impossible to use any mode of transport all because of water logging and flooding at various junctions, then this might help you

The Nationalist Congress Party, which calls itself a secular party, on Friday held its 12th anniversary rally at Somaiya grounds in Sion with the blessings of Siddhivinayak.

After witnessing heavy rainfall early Friday morning, senior party leaders rushed to the Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi at 8 am and conducted a special puja to woe rain gods and stop the rain.

"We prayed to god and kept a mannat (wish) that it shouldn't rain between 10-2.30 pm on Friday to ensure the thousands of people who came from all over Maharashtra do not face any difficulties. We offered him (Siddhivinayak) five coconuts and flowers. It didn't rain and we are happy that god heard our prayers," Uday Pratap Singh, senior Mumbai NCP leader confirmed.

"Sharad Pawar (NCP president) has done a lot for the temple. He got the main temple building constructed. The wishes of millions of devotees who visit the temple was fulfilled and Sharad Pawar's rally was a success," said Singh.

After the rally, Singh and other party members went back to Siddhivinayak temple to thank god.

The NCP rally was organised a day after BJP, RPI, Shiv Sena held a rally at Azad Maidan. The point of NCP rally was to focus on its secularity.

Politics, one-upmanship on display over Shivaji statue
Published: Monday, Jun 13, 2011, 1:50 IST
By Sudhir Suryavanshi | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA

The plan to erect a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea is gathering dust in the state government office from the last two years. The Congress-NCP combine had made an announcement more than ten years ago about installing the statue of 17th century Maratha warrior. However, project has been delayed due to several reasons. Vinayak Mete, NCP leader said the government is moving at a snail’s space. “They are still not mentally prepared to install the statue. I have written to the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar to take this project seriously, as it is close to the people’s hearts. We had a couple of meetings with the administrative officials. We hope the project will be brought again on track,” he said

Sources said that after selecting the Team One architect’s designing for the Rs300 crore memorial to honour Chhatrapati Shivaji, the government did not do anything. “The state administration had prepared the agreement almost two years ago. But after that they did not show any interest in signing and passing the file for various approvals. The agreement has been gathering dust in the state government’s office from the last two years. The memorial has become a political plank for all parties. Whenever, the election is around the corner, politicians start making fuss over it to capatalise on the voters’ sentiments. People are very sensitive and emotional about great king and its related issues. Once, the election is over, they forget the project systematically”, source added.

Nandkumar Jantre, principal secretary of the statepublic administration said the agreement is in last stage of finalising. “There were few issues which we have sorted. I have received the final draft of the agreement, which will be shortly signed by us. The chief minister has also written to the environment minister Jairam Ramesh to get his ministry’s approval. Now, the proposal will move fast,” he added.
