Chennai Express

Watched it today.

It is time-pass movie. Above average.

Rahul (SRK) boards Chennai Express from Mumbai with a plan to get down at Kalyan and then travel to Goa with friends for fun.
But madrasi madam Nelamma (Deepika) comes in between and the story takes them to Tamil-land where her father is a big-shot bhai types and wants her to get married to Thangballi.

A sequence of escapades and running-into-each-other happens finally culminating into and-they-lived-happily-ever-after.

Its a movie by Rohit Shetty who has a series of blockbusters under his belt including Golmaal series, Singham & Bol Bachchan.

SRK has acted funny in a nice way. I dont like him as such.

Deepika has also done well. South Indian culture etc is portrayed nicely.

Many Tamil dialogues are there without any subtitles but it does not matter much.

The movie ends with a song to the credit of Thalaivar (Rajni).

Re: Chennai Express

I have a policy of watching no movie directed by Shetty.. he's baap of Bappi Lehri and Pritam when it comes to copying .. bugger watches 15-20 Hollywood, european, asian, south indian movies and copies all their gags and stunts into 1 movie.. result is a BS movie which earns 200 Crore.

Bollywood never had anything to offer, Indians discuss bollywood movies in their accented english , I know some Delhi RJs who do so and all award functions are in english but industry is god damn Hindi

Re: Chennai Express

So, watched the movie on netflix may be a couple of weeks back. ANy Hakla movie would not be my kind of nonsense and this one just reinforces that.

So, what were the allegations against the movie - 'Makes fun of South Indians', well, i would see it as Kannadigas and Tulus poking fun at Tamils.
Also, the 'North Indian' Hakla as well as Sardarji Mukesh Tiwari are shown as scared of Tamils. (Well, in this case they were goons - so the necessity to be scared of them)

The Mallu hindi spoken by Deepika 'aati', 'jaati', etc. actually gets irritating and in the end Hakla does what he does in almost all his movies. Marries the girl who is about to marry some one else.

Incidentally, the 'Tall Thangabali' is actually Niketan Dheer, which is actually a Punjabi Surname.

Not in the league of my kind of nonsense like Govinda movies or Dharam paaji beating the shit out of Sadashiv AMrapurkat and uttering his 'Kamine' lines.

Re: Chennai Express

Saw this movie some days back and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It is a laugh-riot with a very good pace throughout. Even the songs are not bad... I normally FF through songs but did not find a need in this movie. Haklya is his usual self... the scared wimp who turns around into a brute at the end. And the heroine, whatever her name is, is actually very pretty and acts decently (a rare combination). The best part about the movie are the tamil guys. Excellent casting here. Every goon plays his role to the apt. And what to say of the sril lankans... 5 minute role but funny. Fantastic movie, will give it 5 out of 5, if just for entertainment purposes.

So, having praised the movie... some questions on the characters themselves. There is no real bonding between the lead characters, so why they fall in love janmo-janmantar There was nothing between the two to even draw them together... why change of heart in 5 minutes Just consider this, the guy is a bumbling, inconsiderate, untrustworthy, inexperienced 40-year old virgin. What kind of a girl will fall in love with such a fellow? Especially when the alternative is a handsome, well-built, reigning royal?

And the girl is a typical madrasi, who screams and makes funny horrific faces in the middle of the night... while kicking around... and poking and stabbing. Who in his right mind will want the rest of his life's nights spent with eyes wide awake

Just read in the news that this Thangballi is the son of Pankaj Dheer, the Karna in B R Chopra's Mahabharat. From his acting and personality in the movie, I would have never thot that this guy would be a non-madrasi in real life.
Pankaj Dheer as Karna and Thangballi

Re: Chennai Express

No no... the movie was good. Check my review above. Almost all of SRK movies are good... extremely watchable and usually it is inspite of him. It could very well be the big-budget and excellent directors... and of course, the beautiful actresses... that are pulled all around him.

Girls love his movies. Guys accompany the girl in their life and many actually go to theatres to check on the girls watching these movies.
