The Godfather 1 and 2 over a rainy weekend

This weekend a very close friend who lives in the same area had come over. He had not seen The Godfather till date! So we saw GodFather part 1 and 2 all over again. I can never get tired of films like The Godfather, Heat, GoodFellas, SacrFace and Casino.

One of the best lines in GodFather was - "Keep your friends close to you, but your enemies even closer"

Same here. I tried to watch it on HBO once... but the temptation to change channels became so overpowering that... I changed the channel.

Kya bolte ho Baba? Aap ne shayad pichar barabar nahin dekha.

Scarface wasn’t merely a movie. It’s an epic with a class apart. Among my all time favourites.

Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee reaches the shores of Miami along with hundreds of criminals expelled by Fidel Castro whom the leader considers no longer required on Cuban soil. The movie portrays the meteoric rise & violent downfall of Montana from a dish washer to a dreaded druglord, whom the mafia welcome with “The world is yours”. Ruthless & foul-mouthed, Montana shows no remorse to his enemies & doesn’t trust anyone except his family. As he becomes more powerful, his enemies, greed and his own paranoia begin to plague his empire that eventually lead to his violent downfall.

Below are some of my favourite scenes from the movie:

Montana’s group.

They want to spoil my 800 $ suit.

Gonna have Sosa for breakfast

Say Hello to my little friend!

Those who didn’t fancy the movie maybe do not like Mafia movies, else this movie surely rocks among the all time Hollywood classics.

For heaven’s sake do not watch the plagiarised “Agneepath”. Vijay Deenanath Chauhan doesn’t even match Pacino’s gritty tone. Forget the acting & the stupid drawl in dialogues.

i beg to disagree bro..Agneepath was freakin awesome acting, direction everything
was it a copy though?

dude, when i was watchin Scarface, never for a single moment was i reminded 'bout Agneepath..there is just no connection between the two man zameen aasman(Agneepath) ka farak hai, atleast for me. and whats up with the overrated "say hello to my little friend" dialogue? sorry bro, i found it all BS

and all these fuckin cuban immigrants should be shot dead.

I totally Agree! The movie is one of the best gangster movie I've ever seen .. Mast Pichur hai baap. Al Pacino took method acting to new heights with this movie. My favorite scene in the movie is when Tony Montana goes to that expensive restaurant and creates a scene ... That was frigging awesome! (waise Agneepath mein they copied the scene same to same ) Sorry DB but Agneepath mein kafi scenes copy mara hai Scarface se...

Scarface has shown blood murder and gore in a very chilling detail. I think the amount of unlimited violence turns some people off. Either folks like it or don't...

The movie does have an unmatchable cult following all over the world. I for one can watch it zillions of times and never get tired of it...

Re: The Godfather 1 and 2 over a rainy weekend

Ok ... thanks to Mario Puzo's character development and writing skills ... viewer is witness to human side of the murderers and the criminals ... Godfather series ... some among us cannot help but get emotionally attached to the characters ... same as with the movie Goodfellas.

Scarface on the other hand ... Al pacino has created a character so loathsome that many among us can find no sympathy nor any emotional attachment ... a hard-boiled rotten criminal. You watch it for Al Pacino.

I can bring myself to watch Godfather series as well as Goodfellas anytime ... two films are fun. Not so with Scarface.

Re: The Godfather 1 and 2 over a rainy weekend

Watched "Miller's Crossing" last night. This movie is considered to be another Coens' brothers classic. It is a great gangster movie... very gripping direction... only problem is the hero gets trashed by each and every guy in the movie, at different points in the movie. That's all the movie is about.

For mafia movie fans, The Godfather Collection is a must have gem to own. The one I have doesn't include part III. Still a classic series that never bores.

As for inspirations from Scarface, the game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" is completely lifted from the movie including the chain saw attack.

Re: The Godfather 1 and 2 over a rainy weekend

Watched two movies back to back last Saturday: Sling Blade and Boys Dont Cry. I can watch these two movies over and over again without ever getting tired of them. I just love Billy Bob in SB. Do I have to say anything about Swank in BDC? Let's try and copy that in Bollywood now!

My fav scene in Scarface is when Montana kills his friend just to realize that he's married to his sister.

I love Scarface. Some other movies I love are Godfather (complete series), Casino, Carlitto's Way, Goodfellas.

I love these classic mafia movies.

Re: The Godfather 1 and 2 over a rainy weekend

Nowadays, i take the Jagguji route and scan for any interesting movie in the local library. So, i found this.

I had seen a VHS version of it ages back and could not follow much of it (though did remember the unique voice and the toll naka gunning scene). So, saw it again over the week and a classic it is. It is already known and I wont need to post on why this one is great or what makes it a classic.

Imitation is the best form of flattery and probably this one has been copied and has inspired at least 100 of bollywood movies. So, let me list down the examples i can think of -

Movies copied - Dharmatma, Aatank hi Aatank and probably many more.

Inspired scenes -

Sarkaar - Refusal of Don to finance terror and reluctant Younger son takes over plus the retaliatory murders.

Raajniti - Reluctant younger son plus the Car blast.

Nayakan - The voice plus the retaliatory murders

Parinda - Gunning down of a couple in the bedroom

Vaastav - The hiding of gun in the restaurant.

Now, thanks to this thread, the next one on my watch list is going to be scarface.
