Congress' politics during T20 world cup

The T20 cricket world cup is happening this month in India.

Earlier, Pakistan had been demanding that the event be held outside India because its cricket team could be attacked by "terrorists" in India. It even had threatened to not play in the world cup.

As usual, the ICC told them to participate or face repercussions.

Following this, Government of Pakistan "permitted" Pakistani team to play in India.

Now, the Congress govt of Himachal Pradesh is saying that "they cannot guarantee security of Pakistani team in view of the recent attacks in Pathankot". The Congressi CM told BCCI that it should talk to the families of the soldiers martyred in those attacks & get their approval first. The CM said "these families are going to protest against the match and my forces will not stop them".

It is clear that this CM of Congress is trying to do a catch-up act on nationalism, which is fine & expected of politicians.

But what has happened is, Pakistan has picked it up nicely & telling international community that "didn't we tell you that our team was not safe in India".

Congress should avoid this "washing dirty linen in public" politics. It did it in past too.

I think they should. Who wants them in India anyway?

Dear, if it was not a WC event, it was OK. If it wasn't Pakistan, it might have been OK. In this case, Pakistan is trying to give excuse of "terrorist threat" in India & Congress Govt is giving credence to it.

Pakistanis are so sick of the terrorist tag stuck on them that they can't even differentiate between terrorism & other types of security risks. For them, Ghulam Ali event was cancelled because of "terrorist threat". PIA office in Delhi was ransacked by vandals, hence there is "terrorist threat" to Pakistani interests. Basically they want to feel good by claiming that "we are not the only terrorist country" (just like peacefuls keep claiming that "every religion has extremists & terrorists"). It's a self-soothing gel. Congress is providing it to Pakistan this time.

Re: Congress' politics during T20 world cup

Congress' dirty politics bore fruit. The match is shifted to Kolkata from Dharmshala.

Now the CM is saying that he never said that State Govt. cannot provide security. He only said that he won't do any lathicharge or teargas-attack on the martyrs' kin who would protest. "But that does not mean that they would be allowed to get close to the team", he said.

This CM got himself into a quagmire. But damage is done. Pakistan has been given an opportunity to say "Didnt we tell you so?" on a platter.

Mission accomplished Virbhadra Singh

Re: Congress' politics during T20 world cup

Pakistan is still showing reluctance to play in Kolkata.

If BCCI had an iota of intelligence, self-respect & respect for country (I doubt it since money supercedes anything & everything), it should give the message to Pakistan & ICC that "it would be good if the Pakistani team does not participate in WC now".
