India developing Combat Aircraft

Embarking on "newer missions" in space and defence sectors, India is working on development of a twin-engine Medium-range Combat Aircraft (MCA) and Hyperplane, a reusable and cost-effective space vehicle.

Plans for development of these high-tech systems was outlined by President A P J Abdul Kalam today at the 54th Annual General Meeting of the Aeronautical Society of India (ASI) here.

Kalam, an Aeronautical specialist himself, said "newer missions" were being taken up in continuation of the development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and certain types of missiles.

"A twin engine Medium range Combat Aircraft (MCA) for military applications is in the design phase. In military aviation, significant funding has been made for such systems," he said.

India, Kalam said, was also working on the design of a hyperplane, a reusable and cost effective hypersonic space vehicle with 15 percent payload factor instead of the present three percent.

"While reusable missile configuration and technology has not yet emerged in the world, Indian technologists have started working on reusable hypersonic cruise missile system, an integrated design of multiple technologies derived from UAV, aircraft and missile systems," he said.

"In the current decade, India will see its own combat aircraft and advanced missiles, space launchers, satellites and aeronautical systems in air and space...flight trials for Brahmos have already commenced," said Kalam, a former President of the Aeronautical Society of India.

The Medium Combat Aircraft [MCA] is projected as the replacement for the Jaguar and Mirage 2000 fleets in the IAF. It is under design at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in Bangalore. The MCA will cost $2 billion to develop and will be a tailless delta design with two engines, combined with a thrust vectoring control capability. It is hoped that the engines on the aircraft will develop a thrust-to-weight ratio of 7.8:1. Although it is unclear which company will be selected to supply the engines; SNECMA, Klimov and General Electric have been identified as potential suppliers.

School Drop out and an Engineer

I love this guy's speech..

School Drop out and an Engineer..

See the difference between Gayani Baail Singh and APJ Kalam.
He has got a vision and is always on the move meeting with scientists and engineers.
