If you see a squirrel in the middle of the road

I saw a squirrel in the middle of the road in the opposite lane, running around and unsure. I stopped my car but there was a car approaching in the opposite direction, which did not even slow down. The squirrel jumped out of the way, missing the car by less than a foot. It was not like it was a highway or a crowded road. The speed limit was 25 miles/hr and ours were the only two cars.

Thought of polling echarcha and finding out how many (and who) are human and how many professional pyschopaths

You can choose any which option but hope to get a response too, which will justify (or lighten up) your thought process

This is really a daily issue for me. Getting out on road two times daily for daughters school and that too driving on lots of wooded area I need to really watch for those brisky squirrels. Sometimes they are so silly that they nicely stand in the middle of road and keep eating their nut or instead of crossing quickly they just keep thinking. My route is quiet one so I do slowly stop the car and let squirrels take their own time to get away from road. But this is not possible all the time sometime they just appear from no where and that calls for sudden breaking the car ( lucky me that so far no single crash) If any such crash happens and I kill the squirrel it will be very hard for me...so I am always extra extra careful while I drive...... Ratio of squirrels getting killed is very high, unfortunately I have to see at least one or two dead squirrels every day. I even don't pass my car over dead squirrel, I see that my car tire don't touch poor dead soul. They are simply too wonderfull to drive over.......

Lovetu Tai, your post of course begs a thought that has been running through my mind for a long time. Since the day that I saw a groundhog dying on the ground. It was bleeding (a neck wound) and struggling around. My basic panic reaction was to go around it but till this day it bugs me... why did I not run over it and give it a quick death?

On my way back at the end of the day, I did see that it had died, but do not know how long it had to struggle

Truely sad to come across such situations......running over and giving it quick death and making it free from struggle is indeed a noble thought but I guess it will take huge courage to do so, at least I don't keep that strength rather I may take some other action but never can run over on half dead animal......Your basic instinct upon such situation is kind enough so don't get bugged by that incidence.......Relax ...and just maintain the same attitude...

Smile Re: If you see a squirrel in the middle of the road

I recollect long ago when driving on a busy road here, I saw a small kitten crouching & standing in the middle of the road watching with daze & confusion the cars zooming past it. I pulled over, picked the kitten, placed it on the side of the road & then drove on.

two pats on the back for cool pai. way to go

i had deer freely roaming around in my vicinity and no matter how careful i was, i did end up knocking over one that just appeared out of nowhere once. that memory still gives me nightmares... poor little thing got up and trotted off (didn't seem like it was hurt, the way it walked off.. maybe i was driving like a bullock cart but i was so upset i couldn't sleep after that )

ugh, i'm going to see some lighter thread after this, b/c i'm not going to be able to sleep tonight after remembering this incident again

lemme guess...ur thread is inspired by one of Seinfeld's episode where George Costanza runs over a squirrel and then pays heavily coz his gf makes him take it to a vet and he has to shell out thousands...
