Thumbs up Netflix: Dhoondte Reh Jaoge - a good Bollywood version of The Producers

I stumbled across this 2009 Bollywood film Dhoondte Reh Jaoge on Netflix by chance.

It stars Sonu Sood, Paresh Rawal and Kunal Khemu along with Soha Ali Khan.

In short, this is a very good Bollywood remake of the original Mel Brooks laugh riot from 1967 - The Producers - which I have seen and enjoyed many years ago.

The original was so popular that it was made as a Broadway musical and then remade as a film in Hollywood in 2005.

Okay here is the plot
  • A flop movie producer tries depsperately to recoup his losses but no one takes him seriously.
  • He teams up with a chartered accountant who has an idea to make boatloads of money
  • They come up with a plan to get financed by film financiers and promise 50% partnership in the profits if the film runs well.
  • Their plan is to make an utterly flop film on a shoe string budget so that they do not have to pay back the financiers.
  • They do make a stupid film but it turns out to be a super hit.
  • The fun starts then.

There are many familiar Bollywood and Hindi TV serial actors in the film. The film is well made and keeps you smiling and at times makes you laugh out loud. Definitely worth a watch on a rainy afternoon when you have nothing else to do.

You forgot to mention Johnny Liver... in an absolutely fantastic role. I saw this listed on Netflix... but your review has inspired me to go watch it again. Thanks.
