But you have not seen it work in Himachal, where plastic bags were banned 15 years ago.. people started using their own cloth grocery bags, and those who forgot easily got a cloth bag for 10-20 bucks.. then they never forget. of course ban doesn't mean 100% stop, it's like 90%.

Even in Gurgaon malls and Delhi shops, I didn't get 1 plastic bag after lakhs spent in shopping for a wedding last year.

Himachal is a third world state within India...

For me, honestly, India means Mumbai... I can only relate to Mumbai.. I cannot relate to any other place, even within Maharashtra...

Yes echarcha is full of arm-chair generals

So there are some measures already in effect.

The problem in Mumbai is the clogging of sewers and drains in monsoon and plastic thrown into them is the major culprit. Tomorrow you will ban plastic, but the people will still keep throwing paper bags or whatever bags into them.

Plastic bags can be used responsibly but the people need to change their habits and attitude.

Just banning plastic is not going to help. For example, small vendors and shops pack stuff like sweets, curd etc in plastic bags and give it to you. Are you going to carry steel or glass vessels everywhere with you when you buy stuff?

Also you get food delivery at home. How are the restaurants going to send wet dishes like sambar etc? In paper bags?

Most of the times this government is all about ban first without any thought or provision to tackle the problem.

Just dont clap like those green party environmentalists sitting outside Mumbai and call plastic evil.

The Maharashtra BJP government will have a dip in their approval ratings not just from the plastic industry and the workers who will be jobless, but also by so many other vendors, traders, shop keepers, etc who need plastic bags to operate their business.

Offcourse now many will come here and give lecture on environmental issues and all that.. I have seen the reality in Mumbai from 2011 to 2016. So I speak based on what I have seen and experienced. Rest of the arm chair generals can go fuck off!
in schema of things, not having plastic carry bags or what have you is minor inconvenience. paper bags don't clog the drains. you are right, people need an attitude change. based on your reaction, we probably should start with you
