Thumbs up DVD review: 88 Minutes - Pacino, so good, as usual!

I missed the movie 88 minutes when it was released in cinema halls. So when the DVD was released recently, I rented it as soon as I could.

88 minutes is surely made from some thriller and suspense novel. I did not check the credits, but nevertheless, its a good movie. It satisfies the thriller and suspense needs of the audience quite well.

In brief, the main character of the film - Dr James Gramm is a forensic psychologist who works for the FBI as a consultant and also has his own practise as well as a professorship in the University of Washington, in Seattle.

His expert testimony has helped put many killers and rapists behind bars. One such serial killer and rapist is now behind bars waiting on death row. On the morning of the day of his execution, the professor receives a phone call from an unidentified caller who threatens that the professor has only 88 minutes to live.

This starts off a series of events which lead to a good climax. The director manages to keep the suspense till the very end. Al Pacino, oh boy, can he deliver? Oh yes, he delivers everytime and seems to do it effortlessly.

Now I have a huge bias towards Al Pacino's film Heat and expect him to be the same and do the same things every time I see him. So I wanted him to be same here too, but I am wrong. Pacino plays the professor very well. He is just good. Infact while watching the film, I was thinking that Bollywood should remake this and make Amitabh the professor.

All in all, a good movie. Go get the DVD and watch it.

There isn't any 'action' or 'special effects' for you to spend on a Blu Ray or whatever. Get a regular DVD from Blockbuster and enjoy. The movie shows that a good story and superb acting with tight direction can make a movie good.

Someone I know rented that new movie about fast racing cars or something. I forgot the name. Its produced by the same guys who made The Matrix. He had to shut it off within 30 minutes or so as it started giving him headaches. The visuals are all special effects with cars racing on futuristic race tracks and its just too much on the eyes. He got nauseous as if suffering motion sickness. He had a new HD TV and all that and wanted to see something to enjoy the full effects of the new system. He repented renting this crap movie.

I like HD quality, definitely. Once you get used to it, its hard to see regular TV. But yea, I am not really looking for special effects/action etc. jus coz its HD/Blue ray etc.
Reminds me of that phone company ad these days, where guys make calls on XYZ companies lines expecting the recipient to take it better as the call is digital etc.

I keep a ear out for good sound effects though as that makes or breaks the experience at times.
