Mirzapur - New Prime serial

Prime has come up with another serial - this time based out of an Indian town called Mirzapur.
This is based out of UP and is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
It has got many UP abuses and is in Hindi so it sounds quite authentic. Also, since it is based in UP even abuses are hurled with respect.
I have watched only the first episode - so far it is looking good.

Gritty show. I'm on ep 3.

It's raw. But Sacred Games is better because of Nizamuddin.

Re: Mirzapur - New Prime serial

I felt there was unnecessary display of gore. Not needed.

AnuragKashyap does the best job in this genre. Sacred Games is better, because the story is more layered and nuanced. Mithapur was just mindless killings.

I binge watched it and found it really good. I felt this was better written and directed and picturized than Gangs of Wasseypur.

The violence was real and required to show that what we see in films is not the real thing as its make believe. Just like Tarantino, the direction of violent scenes was superb.

The season 1 finale was really good. All three Tripathis do a 'parakram' ....

Waiting for season 2.

^^
Looks like Napolean, like me, is not used to Binge watching.
I took over a year to finish Star Trek on Netflix.
The only show where i watched multiple episodes at a go was 'Californication'.
I took about 2 weeks to finish that too.

On this Sunday - last day of the thanksgiving weekend - I binge watched entire Sacred Games season 1. Waiting for season 2. Hope they do it soon.

On Saturday I had binge watched Mirzapur.

The actor portraying Kaleen Bhaiyya in Mirzapur is also there in Sacred Games, though he appears only after the first few episodes.

I am now looking for something else to watch either on prime or netflix. Something as good as these two shows.

Yes. That's Pankaj Tripathi. He plays Guruji in Sacred Games. Watch "Powder" on Netflix if you haven't already. Its about Narco trafficking. Pankaj Tripathi plays the kingpin in that series. Supporting cast has also acted well.

finale was 'shocking' - kept me on the edge of my seat.
Funniest dialog was "bhosdi waale uncle" .

I felt that the story is the typical criminal, politician, police nexus and the oppression of the aam aadmi -- but the violence and the nonchalance of the perpetrators of the violence is what takes it to the next level. I might be in the minority here, but I did not like all the detailed violence -- by the last episode I found myself forwarding through some of the violent scenes -- all the killing got a little too heavy and repetitive.

Sacred games was much more gripping and edge of seat type.

That said, I will still watch season 2 when it comes out.
