A talking parrot has helped the police crack the case of its mistress’ murder after it “identified” the alleged killer. Neelam, wife of a local Hindi newspaper editor Vijay Sharma, was found murdered at her residence in Balkeshwar colony here on February 20, police said.
While the police were looking for the killer, Sharma noted a change in the behaviour of their pet parrot whenever his nephew, Ashutosh Sharma Goswami, came to the house. “It sulked every time Ashutosh passed its cage,” Sharma’s brother Ajay said. Growing suspicious, the victim’s family started taking names of possible suspects in front of the parrot.
When Ashutosh’s name was taken, the parrot started shouting ‘Usne maara, Usne maara’ (He is the killer), Ajay said. The family then informed the police, who took Ashutosh into custody. On questioning, Ashutosh confessed to the crime. Ashutosh told police that he along with his accomplice, Ronny Massey, entered Sharma’s house and forced Neelam to hand over cash and valuables at the point of a dagger.
Afraid that she would reveal his identity, Ashutosh allegedly stabbed her to death. He also allegedly stabbed Sharma’s pet dog to death when he started barking at him. Both of them were arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder and loot, Agra SSP Shalabh Mathur said. “We got a lot of help from the parrot to zero in on the murderer,” the SSP said.

I wonder how true this story is.

Re: Is this for real? Parrot identifies mistress's killer!

I have had 4 parrots (2 pairs) as pet (each pair living about 12 years avg).. and the best part is I NEVER kept them in a cage.. they were always free to roam about in the house.. they are''/ very very smart creatures but can they talk "with meaning"? Yes and no.. they talk to seek attension. They understand you perfectly but do not respond with "talk". Is it possible though.. might be.

How well can they talk? Very well.. I had one which used to hang about in our front yard tree.. under that tree, children would play marbles and it would watch and listen to them and otherwise be a busy body.. children while playing would enter into fight..and soon will be shouting MC/BC galores.. this bird learnt all that.

Once it was sitting a top our main door and my dad's boss came to visit.. he took a pen out of his pocket and extended it to the bird.. it tried to grab it like it would when I gave it a stick or a mirchi or whatever and he withdrew his hand.. he then would give it again and when it tried to grab, withdraw his hand again.. he was teasing it. The parrot got annoyed.. when he did the same a third time, it did not start to grab it.. instead started showering him with MC/BC galore.. non stop.. and this dude was mortified.. Me and mother were sitting inside watching tv and hearing the otherwise peaceful bird so agitated went out to see what ever the issue was.. and see this gent watching the parrot in amazement and embarassment.. He left..

My dad forced the bird to fly away but it came back..it lived for a full 13 years.

Many things apart from galis it would say were.. mummy mere ko bhook lagi.. khaana deo (and no it did not mean it.. just would blabber..) doodhwaala aayaa.., hmm.. maar khaana hai kyaa?.. rosi rosi.. khaan hai re tu (rosi was our german shep) and tons of tamil stuff.. and most often was "kundi la vodaipen" (I will kick your bottoms)..

Never dull with them..

They can bite.. and bite very hard (they are nut crackers).. but if they are used to us, they will not (except if you touch its head which annoys it no ends).

Very smart and communicative birds but not communicative to be witness to a killing. I don't think so.
