‘Outsiders’ responsible for rise of malaria, says Raj Thackeray

By Alok Deshpande | Place: Mumbai | Agency: PTI, DNA

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday blamed the heavy influx of migrants for the deterioration of health and education in the city. Thackeray blasted the state government for showing apathy towards people of the state.

“Mumbai is down with malaria. The condition of this city is pathetic as it is full of garbage and sewage. The slums are filled with labourers from outside, who keep coming in without any rest. They are mainly responsible for whole situation,” Thackeray said, speaking at the programme ‘Education 2020’ organised by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS).

“The Tamil Nadu government has decided to teach engineering in Tamil, but our state government can’t even make the school syllabus in Marathi. I am not a regional chauvinist, but I do oppose outsiders’ attack on my language,” said Thackeray. “All MNVS activist should stand up against the education mafia in the state.

We must show them our strength, if anyone refuses to enroll Marathi students. These private institutes are earning money by selling their college seats to rich students from other states.”

Other members of the discussion panel at the event asked the government to take immediate steps to improve the education system so as to reach the goal of being a developed nation till 2020, as envisioned by former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Maharashtra govt assures malaria control in 8 days
Published: Monday, Aug 2, 2010, 20:00 IST
Place: Mumbai | Agency: PTI

With incidents of malaria on a rise in the metropolis, Maharashtra health minister Suresh Shetty said the menace would be brought under control within eight days.

"We have taken all possible measures to control malaria and results would be seen within eight days," Shetty told reporters in Mumbai today.

Considering the rise in the number of patients in public hospitals, the minister has asked private hospitals to start treatment immediately after a patient is diagnosed with malaria.

Even private practitioners have been permitted to distribute free medicines provided by the government, he added.

The BMC is regularly conducting fogging in Worli, Parel, Kurla, Byculla, Andheri, Jogeshwari and Dadar, the areas where the disease is most rampant, Shetty said.

The government is also following guidelines laid down by a team of the Centre which visited the city last week, he said.

The team had recommended the civic body to do intensive monitoring of construction sites. Also, people staying near construction sites should regularly use mosquito nets, the team had suggested.

You want action in moments. It takes time in India, and yet the CM has promised 8 days. So wait for 8 days and then talk about it. You dont want to give him a chance and then you want to complain too!

sure it takes time in India. it takes time for the fact to sink in that rains are coming, that precautions should have been started earlier.... hmmm you are right, unless half the population suffers from the disease how will people realise that we need a further 8 days to tackle this menace? in your blind admiration you have come to expect nothing out of governance, so even if they just say they will do something, you are out on your horse trumpeting support.

You folks who support BJP blindly do get worked up dont you? Things take time and haste makes waste. That is one thing I have learnt from studying Congress that never act in haste unless absolutely required. You cannot eradicate malaria creating situations within a day. Wait, have patience. There is a lot that BJP needs to learn from Congress, seriously!

Re: ‘Outsiders’ responsible for rise of malaria, says Raj Thackeray

Yes. 8 days and there will be a media blackout on malaria news. Yes, this is one of the things BJP needs to learn from Congress.

Amrit, I wish you had started a different thread about the higher education in local language. It is good. Will also restrict brain drain. Diploma courses have been taught in local language for a long time now. BAMS and BHMS have been taught in local language for a long time, though not MBBS.

See, the terminology remains in english, but the theory part is in local language so why not? The engineers here will recall how the scores of students from local language medium went down in the 1st and 2nd years - students scoring 80-90-95% in 12th and 50-55% in engg.. initially.

By having Tambis monopolize outsourced engineering tasks...then everybody will have to learn Tamil and Tambis will flourish

Raj Thackrey is needed in Maharashtra and especially Mumbai so that the complacent and now incompetent Shiv Sena finally decides to move off its ass!

Also Raj Thackrey is helping the NCP Congress combine by providing a way to keep Congressi leaders like KripaShankar in check who are not necessarily 'friends' of Pawar saheb and Congress.

Raj is a 'soft person': Amar Singh

Quote:
Softening his stand against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said on Sunday that Raj's statement regarding migrants spreading Malaria was not from his heart.
"Although alleging that migrants are spreading Malaria is not good, what he (Raj) said was not from his heart," Singh said at the function of the Lokmanch Party here taking the political pundits by surprise.
"I have met Raj several times along with a common friend Lalit Soni and I found him to be a very soft person with immense self-esteem," Singh said.

Re: ‘Outsiders’ responsible for rise of malaria, says Raj Thackeray

i dont know about malaria brought in by migrants..but in case of polio, yes it has been brought in by migrants. The polio drive in mumbai is very strong and yet polio is not completely destoryed. The dean of sion hospital in mumbai had given a report which stated that faeces are number one medium for polio and most fo the migrants having improper sanitary facilities often take a dump in open, mostly near public places.
