Thumbs down Heavy rains bring Mumbai to a grinding halt

Heavy rains bring Mumbai to a grinding halt, as usual.

Shanghai ... oops ... Mumbai has been affected adversely by rains as usual. In his last term PM Manmohan Singh said he will make Mumbai into another Shanghai. Now I wonder if Shanghai gets affected by rains.

Heavy downpour affects Mumbaikars
By: A CorrespondentDate: 2009-07-04

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai leading to heavy water logging and traffic jams in various parts of the city. Mahim, Matunga and Mumbai Central were the most affected areas with waterlogging problems, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Trains between Sion and Kurla were crawling as a result of waterlogging on the tracks. A commuter on a CST bound train said,"I boarded a train at 9.30 from Kalyan and after 2 hours I am still stuck near Sion because of water logging. Trains are moving slowly as the tracks near Sion station as barely visible."

However, train services in other areas of the city have not been affected by the rains.

Vehicular traffic is moving slowly at Dadar TT and Andheri flyover. Schools, colleges and offices are working as usual. Traffic control unit of BMC has installed about 25 CC TVs on major junctions to keep a check on the situation.

What yaar,we from Mumbai are supposed to post this news and you are doing it on our behalf.Thanks.
Anyways rains were somewhat heavy today and almost nonstop.Heard there was water logging in most parts of Dadar Mahim and adjoining area, since it was a weekend and the rains started early morning people were mostly at home.
Some older folks say that during Ashadi Ekadashi it rains heavily, hope I remember to observe it next year

All this time i have been shouting the same. In MH politicians use bombay as a bali ka bakra, get the tax funds from it and use it else where.

make it a god damn union territory, so that the funds would be used in the city itself.

P.S: Naidu during his tenure spent a lot of money on HYD knowing that HYD was starved of infrastructure. The roads used to be so clean that even SM krishna and jayalalitha commented that they were better than their own state capital roads.

Babu, making it a union territory would send all funds in New Delhi coffers. The Union government would get all the funds. And do you think the Union government cares for Mumbai? Even if Congress rules the union territory the money will keep flowing out of Mumbai to fund nonsense like Mayawati's statues and railroads where passengers dont pay for ticktets!

No... All states have to send money to New Delhi. So unless the government says that keep one quater worth of revenue from Mumbai for Mumbai and send the rest to Delhi, nothing will happen. The money collected from Mumbai goes to Delhi and then Maharashtra state has to beg for money to be allocated back for projects in the state. Our system of government is not like US where there is State Tax separate from Federal Tax. In India we have just one big Income Tax and Sales Tax and it all goes to central government.

Lightbulb Re: Heavy rains bring Mumbai to a grinding halt

They should distribute the revenue money in 2-3 parts
1. Govt
2 for Mumbai development
3 for the State Development.

They cannot pay all the revenue money from mumbai city they have to get it from other cities and adjust.

If you see china's infrastructure you will get chakkar, Even very small cities like Wenzhou, and some famous City like Ningbo are so clean with very good roads high buildings you cannot believe,

There is poverty in those places also but not as much as mumbai have.

state ke khud ke taxes he like the money gained on liquor, and the tax collected on state borders(i just know some, but there are thousands like these).
and even in the income tax collected in state there is a % for state and % for center.
