What is Mahesh Manjrekar upto nowadays? Well, apart from taking up acting in films like Kaante and Pran Jaaye Par Shaan Jaaye (yes, the chawl has changed to shaan in the title), the director hopes to wield the megaphone for his international film It Was Raining That Night. The film is a remake of the Astitva and has Sushmita Sen playing the role that was originally done by Tabu. Besides It Was Raining That Night, Mahesh Manjrekar hopes to launch another English film called V 3 (We Three) that tells the story women over three generations viz; grandmother, mother and granddaughter.

With Hollywood taking note of Bollywood,
this might prove successful for Mahesh Manjrekar.
Hollywood has made a movie The Guru targetting Indian audiences wordlwide. My friends from Mumbai tell me that it is being well received back home. Well, Kaantein was successfuly made in USA and is receiving good response back home too. So no wonder Bollywood wants to make desi films in English for a wider audience. I would definitely welcome such a new trend. Infact they can make Company and Satya type movies in English too... Surely the western audiences will love our style of "mafia" and "bhai" films. |
