Widespread protest in Tamil Nadu for jallikattu

For the past few days Tamil Nadu is in news for Jallikattu
Students and youngsters are on the roads and public places demanding the conduct of Jallikattu, the traditional bull-taming sport in the state.

Peta wants a ban on it but the state govt has passed an ordinance allowing it.

Peta never says anything about meat export but wants a ban on a traditional sport.
Thou I am also an animal lover but I am in favor of jalikattu, imagine if that is banned all the bulls at birth would be given to butchers instead of the current where they are taken care of so that they fight and maybe not every bull makes it to the war or dies in the war.

Whats your take on it ?

It is probably much kinder to animals than Halal slaughter. Next what too much of pollution - so ban crackers in Diwali.

Only, all the guys supporting this bull taming seem to have woken up now. why was no one supporting this silent when the case was in court for so many years

2 different takes from 2 different nationalists

Dont you feel Subramaniam Swamy is somewhat BJP's version of DigVijay ?

One Madrasi was telling that Brahmins dont like Jallikattu and hence Subramaniam Swamy is supporting the ban.

Illustrious Dr. Swamy has many fans in EC who would get offended by comparing him to Digvijay. Ori pai, where are you?

Animal cruelty should stop in my opinion - speaking just from a humane perspective.
In Jallikattu, they torture the bull to make him disoriented and then enjoy its actions.
That is bad.
If they do not torture the bull and just play with it - I don't have any issue with it.

Re: Widespread protest in Tamil Nadu for jallikattu

I think the whole issue is to divert the attention of Amma followers and the current political situation in TN.
In politics they create problems to be solved later to bury/divert another problem so this was one of them

Hope you didnt write the article. The first para starts well that it is mistakenly seen as Hindi Majoritarian attack and between Traditional Tamils and Brown sahibs of PETA. But the rest of the article going to Ottman empire, and Bangladesh war for this issue is a bit too far fetched.

As Swami (our Illustrious Monitor swami, not illustrious Dr. Dr Swamy) said, it could just be to divert attention. Else Supreme court had banned it in 2014. Why are the supporters waking up now. Or is it a part of another Desi tradition of acting at the last moment.

Subramaniam Swamy's researched, documented/evidence based harking cannot be compared to squeals of digvijay singh's baseless fawning and kowtowing to Gandhi family.

I do wonder why PETA has not had guts to oppose the meat centric festivals of non-hindus....
