you will be surprised. I know of my friends projcet who have set up a self sufficient gobar gas plant in the village.
no, I dont know if they invite the whole village to shit at the plan and dont know how many homes does it power electricity for, but it is there and it works, how villagers use it is up to them.

Re: Indian Immigrant's story in USA @ Facebook

And what is the need to call families back in India 3 times a week? What drastic changes in life happens 3 times a week that you need to call?????

I have not called in over a year as my life is stable and so is that of my fellow cousins in India.

Prices range from above 50L to few crores. Real estate in India has multiplied manifold & cannot be compared to annual hikes in $alary.
Wrong if you have worked for a decade and say you saved at least $1000 a month then you should have $120,000 saving. Ok lets take worst case scenario , you have to call India 3 times a week , then you have 100 grands, which converts into 50 lacs. Using that as down payment you can buy a house worth 1 crore. Now, if you want to argue that you cannot have $1000, saving then I have no counter-arguements. When I say saving , it includes your 401k etc. People usually max out on 401k then you may get some money here and there as stock options, sign on bonus , you can easyliy save upto 100k in 10 years.
If not then this is not the profession for you........

Re: Indian Immigrant's story in USA @ Facebook

consider this - guy joins an Indian IT company as fresher in 1995. The salary - in todays scale - is peanuts. these are the days when 10K rs made someone feel like a crorepati.
In a couple of years guy is sent onsite to amrika for a project. The amrikan allowance is pittance but guy gets his India basic salary which is straight saving. After 2 years amrikan allowance gets converted to amrikan salary. From here on the scale of increase is 5-10% per annum.

even with this, the rate at which property rates increase over 2003-2008 in India is so much that it would price such a person out... not an impossible scenario (although with spouse earning in amrika, most people end up buying 2 flats in India in that period!).

Re: Indian Immigrant's story in USA @ Facebook

Just curious, ok, dirty curiosity. One works in US for 10 years and not a net crorepati? Real? Ok, most of them, still real ?

If the answer is no, i have a reason to feel good about myself.

Kaminapan, i know, but everything these days are relative.
