Cell-to-cell incoming calls to be free

Within a day of calling truce with basic telecom players, the cellular operators today decided to make incoming calls from cell-to-cell free across various networks.

This is part of their commitment to make weekly announcements, which was derailed for some time due to dispute between cellular operators and basic telecom players over the issue of interconnection.

The free incoming calls would be implemented with effect from now but in certain service areas the network needs to be upgraded and therefore the process could take a week in some circles.

TRAI is about to relase new interconnect guidelines

it is expected to reccomand

1. BTO to GSM interconnect ---GSM gets 45ps for 90 sec call (today it is zero)
2.GSM to BTO --BTO gets 30p/90sec (today it is 1.14 /3min)

IF that happens --

1.This will be swing of pendulam on other extreme , BTOs which dont charge airtime and are giving you 60ps/90sec outgoing calls will not be able to support this for BTO to GSM interconnect calls
2. Another war may start and we may see more disruption of services.
3. Cell phones cos may bring incoming call charges (from other than Cell which is free now) by 30 ps per minute , if they addd from thier side we may be heading for incoming call free regime on cell too.


Pramod Mahajan may be the most harreid person for next few months , but the skill which he displayed day before yesterday may see him through .

Reliance is in danger , it may not fulfill its promise of tariff after next interconnect guidelines and there is a remote chance that WLL-M service itself may fall through in court.

My Guess is ----Reliance will manipulate court verdict so as it remains in WLL-M buissness bur wriggles out of promise of free data on CDMA/WLL owing to supreme court verdict .

additionally GSM and BTO may secretely join hands to force governmant to forgo rural connection commitments of contract for BTO and may also get partial refund of Licenece fee by GSM ops
