Ashdoc's movie review---Ishaqzaade

In the medieval era there were the shehezaade---sons of mughal emperors---famous for their power drunk arrogance......

.....And in the 20th century we have Ishaqzaade---lovers who try to make up in chutzpah what they lack in mughal sons' arrogance.....

And their chutzpah is such that they cross all rules of caste and religion to make love.....

Its the Romeo and Juliet of the 21st century......

Not only their families are opposed to their union , but also their religion and faith---and when opposition to love is mixed with ancient religious hatred , the potential is explosive indeed.....

So what attracts a girl who is a true believer in Allah to a kaafir ?? Its the same zany madness in their personas and a devil may care attitude to life......

And the kaafir ?? Why does he hook up with a mussalli ??
Well ,lets keep that a secret---for the movie does have a big surprise in store towards the interval......

But what about the zaalim zamana ??---especially because the setting of the film is in backward parts of UP rather than in cosmopolitian metros like Mumbai ,Pune , Bangalore or Delhi.....

And more importantly than that---what about the careers of their politician relatives which are about to be hurt by their no-holds-barred love ?? Are these politicians going to forgive the star-crossed lovers for their incredible daring ??

Go see the movie for that.....

The acting honours among the couple go to Parineeti Chopra---and not only the acting honours , but also the kissing honours , for not only she plays her role with a zest and exuberance , but she shows the same zest and exubarance while kissing and making love.....

......And love she does make---in abandoned godowns , in a railway compartment and even in a whorehouse.....
......and yet pulls off the feat of displaying no vulgarity.....

Boney Kapoor's son Arjun Kapoor's acting is over the top---at least I felt so.....

The film has a promising first half especially towards the interval as it delivers a surprise , but fails to deliver in the second half as it meanders its way.....

As the final reckoning comes for the lovebirds , it fails to evoke the empathy and sympathy that made a film like Ek duje ke liye such a cult hit.....

On the brighter side , this means no chance of real life lovers committing suicide like they did after watching Ek duje ke liye---this film simply lacks the power of emotion and fabulous performances that the 80s cult hit had.....

But on the darker side , the film does not herald a good portent for those who want to cross the boundaries of religion for love---especially the hindu-muslim boundary......

However , the setting of a mofussil town of Uttar pradesh with its gun culture and violent ways is well picturised in the film .

Verdict---not good .

It takes immense courage to say this... but the movie is BAD!!

Nonetheless.. the Boy has acted well.. considering this was his first movie!!! Arjun Kapoor has arrived!!!!!!!

Parineeti is good too.. but aint sure if anybody would like to take her home!

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---Ishaqzaade

I saw this movie. OK kinda movie.

It's a movie about two lovers (you didn't expect any other subject from Bollywood, did you?).

She falls in love with the character played by Arjun Kapoor, for reasons that are not entirely clear to me.

She radiates the innocence of the girl-next-door, and yet she is a spirited woman, not a doormat.

Her taste in men, though, is, ummm, dubious.

I mean, look at that dude. Sports a permanent three-day old stubble, two top buttons of his shirt always unbuttoned, and it doesn't seem like he has any table manners either.

They filled half the movie with dishum-dishum and gun-fights, and it's boring to watch this much dishum-dishum. A little bit would have been okay.

I wish Bollywood would tone down on the melodrama and the hyperbole.
