Adhar is only valid for residents in India. NRI's are not eligible for Aadhar. so banks should not be asking for it if you show your OCI card....

however, not all officials are on the same page about it. Some twats might still refuse to do anything until you show the adhar card. or if you dont want to advertise your citizenship then there is nothing you can do without adhar now.

If you are looking to open a new bank account where you deposit money in INR and withdraw money in INR, then I recommend opening an NRO account with ICICI bank that you can do without visiting India. If you already have an NRE account with them then you will not even need to supply majority of documents.

You can use NRO account to make investments, its more or less same as a savings bank account - only difference is that NRO is for non residents.
