Bombay a metro city was renamed as Mumbai and then soon after Madras also a metro city was renamed as Chennai.

However while speaking most people address Bombay still as Bombay while everyone religiously addresses Madras as Chennai.

Why is this so?.Why is the renaming of Madras more successful than that of Bombay?

Has it something to do with the fear of the parochial attitude of some of the Tamilians that all North Indians have started calling it Chennai instead of Madras?
