Namaste folks,

I have taken some pains trying to make it easier for you to rate a thread and also to quickly view the ten top rated threads on the main page.

Given everyone's busy schedule, do you think this rating system helps you in judging which threads to read first or read at all.

I am not sure how much the star rating of a thread actually reflects the real quality of the thread. Out here, anyone can rate a thread. You can start a crappy thread and rate it multiple times under different IDs. Lotsa people don't even bother to vote. So, the rating is misleading at times.

It has a better chance of working (reflecting the ACTUAL quality of a thread in terms of fun and content) if only a selected panel is allowed to rate the thread. Some people with a proven good taste when it comes to threads (I ain't one of them :D) should be given the charge of rating threads in an unbiased way.

agree wit biggie here..guess only tha moderators should have tha power to rate a thread..well not rate..let every1 rate but tha final decision should be in them hands of tha moderators...

Just one user's vote does not change the overall rating. Only when sufficient people vote for a thread, we get a good average.

Please people - I wish that you all vote on threads.

Initially I had an enthu for using the rating system lekin baad mei aalas aata hai use karne mei , specially here in India when u r using a dial up connection and u keep getting disconnected when u r surfing from ur village .

Can something be done in such a way that their be made a compulsory mandorty field to be filled for the rating , without filling which ur reply or original thread wont be posted .This shud be incorporated within the reply option or start thread option in a way that the user has to click only once for REPLYING AS WELL AS RATING.

Otherwise atleast I wont be bothered to rate and then reply and click once and then by the time u click twice u are informed u are disconnected :o

Voting shud be made compulsory , and not like the voting that takes place in our country in which the democraticc govt is selected by the minority and not a majority , thus making it as Big-G Said long time back , a mockery of democracy .

Rating a Post (vs) Rating a thread

Well.... the above line says it all.... can a thread with only one post be rated ? True that the quality of the first post decides to a great how the thread is going to proceeds but rating the first post in a thread in no way qualifies as a thread rating.

So I suggest, we rate 'posts', instead of threads. Then we automatically compute a thread rating based on the number of good posts i nthe thread and their ratings. What you say?

My points with the current system:
1. One should not be allowed to rate a thread with less than 10 replies (say). Well, the rating is actually a reflection of what the ppl in the forum wants to see. Even if a crappy thread, if it receives 10 or more replies, then that is what the ppl want to read and converse on. Don't you think so? Or otherwise, asking people to rate a thread serves no meaning if you want to rate a thread according to the 'sophecticated' or 'mature' content.

2. One should not be able to rate a thread started by self. :D A factor of bias I suppose.

3. One more thing, before replying to a thread, compell the person to rate the thread. A small dialog to rate will ensure this. (Or Alternatively, before quoting a post, rate the post being quoted. Than the ratings can be used to automatically work out the correct thread rating)

Saxenaa , don't reply to Tinda on the same topic of Multiple id's .:o He has a one point programe only :o....Bore him by ur ignorance .:o ie by intentionally replying to the immediate next poster after Tinda on the same thread .

Not that Ignorance is less important , but conveying the ignorance is more important :)

Surprised to see an old thread revived. We dont show the top rated threads on the main page for now, but I can modify the main page template to show the top rated threads, once we upgrade to vBulletin3.5 very soon.
