India needed to go to penalties to beat arch rivals Pakistan in the final of the nine-nation Prime Minister's Gold Cup international tournament in Dhaka.
The victory was made the more impressive as the Indians trailed their neighbours 3-2 going into the last two minutes of the match.
But Dilip Tirkey's 68th minute equaliser forced the match into 15 minutes of extra time, where neither side could score the decisive goal.
Daljit Singh was the Indian hero, scoring his side's fifth penalty after his Pakistani counterpart Muhammad Nadeem's shot had bounced back from a post.
Indian captain Baljit Singh Dhillon and Arjun Halappa had scored with their penalties to give the team a 2-0 lead as Pakistan's Sohail Abbas and Muhammad Sarwar missed their strokes.
Tense finale
But Pakistan levelled the score to 2-2 when Haider Hossain and Waseem Ahmed scored and Inderjit Singh and Probhjit Singh missed their respective penalties for India.
But Daljit Singh made no mistake as India registered their 32nd victory in 93 matches over Pakistan.
Earlier, Nadeem looked to have given his side the edge when his goal left the scores at 3-2 in the 60th minute.
India's Radha Krishnan and Pakistan's Sarwar had each scored twice in the first half - but Tirkey's equaliser took the game to a tense finale.
Penalties were also needed to decide the outcome of the third and fourth place play-off.
Egypt eventually came out on top, beating Japan 7-6 on penalties when their play-off match ended 3-3 after 85 minutes of action
