Pakistan's tit-for-tat missile launch likely
Sunday, January 27, 2002 (Islamabad):
Pakistan might have second thoughts and follow suit to test its Shaheen-II and other missiles in response to India's test firing of Agni-II, if the condemnation of the international community against the Indian test was not up to its expectations.
Pakistan has informed the United States that it is not involved in any arms race with India nor does it want to create tension in the region but at the same wants the international community to strongly condemn New Delhi's test firing of the Agni ballistic missile.
"As far as Pakistan is concerned it has told the US that neither is it involved in arms race with India nor wants to create tension in the region. But Pakistan wants the international community to condemn India to the extent that it may not defy the world opinion again," Defence Spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said commenting on the test-firing of Agni II.
The Agni test has shown that India does not care for the concern of the international community over its missile tests, he told Radio Tehran. "India is also trying to show its strength as it deployed troops along the Pakistan borders. But I want to make it clear to India its coercive attempts would have no effects on Pakistan," Qureshi said.
Qureshi claimed that Pakistan's deterrence was fully in its place and said Islamabad also reserved the right to conduct the tests of its missiles.
