Last night we were browsing our local grocery *** video store for some movies. I had seen a short trailer of Bollywood Calling in some other DVD before so I picked it up.
Its a laugh riot. Okay the situations and scenes are predictable but much better than the recently released ABCD.
Bollywood Calling is an English film base in India - specifically in the Telugu Film industry capital of Hyderabad. It is produced and directed by Nagesh Kukonoor.
The story is about a film director Subramanyam plyaed marvelously by Om Puri who wishes to make a film with a American 'foreign' star of his favorite action flicks like 'BloodFeather'. The start cast is huge with the leading man who is the most popular star Mannu Kumar played by Naveen Nischol.
Somehow the alcoholic firang star is convinced and comes down to India for a shooting.
The story of this film to be shot is that a young couple and their son are going in a train and the dacoits attack. The son is picked up by the dacoits and the mother dies. The father goes to USA and marries again to a American and has another son. This son is a computer engineer who returns from America to help his dacoit brother as he 'senses' that his 'bhayiya' is in trouble.
The story is all cockamamie and this is what provides the laughs. The way shooting is done in India, no script, over exaggerated emotions,. etc. is really funny.
Do watch this. :up: You will enjoy this more than the regualr rich/poor boy falls in love with poor/rich girl ... blah blah..
