i7 quad core
win7 with xp compatible
MS office home n business 2010
36 months anti virus
16GB RAM
500-750 GB HDD
NVIDIA (prefer) graphics card with 2/4GB
DVD writer
15-17" LCD HD+(1600X900) LED backlit
cam+mic
wireless LAN b/g/n
bluetooth
3 yrs hardware support
3 yrs NBD onsite service
3 yrs accidental damage
business carrying case ( no backpacks )

Suggestions plz.

what difference the 4GB graphics card will make with 16 GB of RAM and i7 quad core 2.7GHz 8M speed instead of 2GB graphics card.

I dont want to waste money on 4GB video card unless it really makes a difference. 4GB is 1500 dollars more than the 2GB card.

Layered maps kind of stuff. The user will be downloading a lot of data from govt websites and manipulating it to present in front of high officials that they are capable of doing the work.

I have been doing OpenGl, and DirectX on GPU cards with 1 GB memory and according to one of my friend my graphics card is high end . I used to simultaneously run Photoshop and it still gave good performance .

I guess if you are not doing some serious computing , 2GB should be enough . But frankly I have never worked on geo-spatial stuff , Google Earth try maara hai and it works great in 1 GB .

Thanks to poor show by PS3 network. Got hacked multiple times in multiple countries and gave away thousands of user's credit cards, usernames and passwords. Forget encryption, they didn't even use a simple hash to hide the passwords and the credit cards fields. Lost consumer's trust there... totally. They thought they cud buy it back by allowing them to download two games.

Gaming PCs/laptops always have the highest-end specs. Understand you won't need all that extra pizzazzz for your presentations but if you are looking at highest-processing then you got to consider gaming ones. Try finding one without those extra decorations:)

serious.... okay

first i7 is the processor and 2.7GHz is the speed. like pandrahinchi you need it to do stuff nobody else cant do..right??

RAM is memory where all the programs open and ready to be explored...like a bed/water bed bigger the better...more room to play...right??

graphics card is the place where people see this happening ...processors can do it in the space provided but if you cant see it happening in front of ur eyes then no use.... right... turn on the light of the room .... stare at the eyes ...right???

wireless b/g/n as swami mentioned different bands of wireless network... like after the act you have to brag about the act how good it was among different groups of people.... so one card can handle all groups... right??

3 yrs support for phone and Next Business Day support for tech to come and fix it is just to be on safe side. this hi-fi machine I dont want to get in truoble fixing myself or give for repair to corner computer fixing shop and if you buy these services with the purchase of the machine they are cheaper. uummmmm... seriously .... this is big .... listen .... like signing a contract that all pregnancies and other hickups will be taken care of after the acts..... kewl ..right ??

No development, but I've used it extensively for all my photo editing and some video editing using Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and iMovie. It responds way better than my Dell Inspiron (albeit a low-end one).

The config I posted above is for the ultimate super laptop. My MBP doesn't have all the bells and whistles listed there.

nice config chilla pai. user is not well versed with Macbook OS and dont have time to train. so will stick to win7 OS with xp mode compatibility cos one of the software is bugging me they havent updated its compatibility with 64-bit OS. Photoshop, aperture like softwares need better specs to take advantages of these softwares.

You can install Windows on Macs (at least the newer ones that are Intel based). It should be noted that the learning curve is not as steep as perceived and the user experience is many times better. If the word "Mac" freaks the user out, then it's not worth wasting your time trying to train or convince him/her.

graphics card is the place where people see this happening ...processors can do it in the space provided but if you cant see it happening in front of ur eyes then no use.... right... turn on the light of the room .... stare at the eyes ...right???

There is Processes (running) in Task Manager ... obviously not enough. Got it.

Again task manager. task manager is to see which all processes are active what they are doing and how is ur monitor displaying depends on the graphics card.

wireless b/g/n as swami mentioned different bands of wireless network... like after the act you have to brag about the act how good it was among different groups of people.... so one card can handle all groups... right??

This I don't got. Starbucks or whorehouse ... wireless is wireless ... all it does is conect you to clouds or internet. Noh?

By the way ... I never brag. It is women who brag having been with me ... ruining my good reputation in the process.

Starbucks and whorehouse in bihar have open wireless internet...here we are talking about he speed bands of wireless connection

Wireless G Standard Speed = 54Mb/s (IEEE 802.11 Specifications)
Wireless N Standard Speed = 144Mb/s (IEEE 802.11 Specifications)....

Understood ... you do not wish to fuck around unnecessarily.
Reminds me ... must go to temple tomorrow to pray for crop failure ... I planted some seeds in wrong pot.

Should ve used the other hole of the pot. it will be tight for the first timer but seeding through it is no problem and you dont have to go to temple to pray for crop failure.

For me nvidia drivers have caused so much headache ... the drivers crash quite so often ... AMD Radeon in SLI/Crossfire mode should be good (assuming they support it on laptops). or else go with the max gpus in a card with the max processing power/memory ... but then it will be prohibitively expensive ... another option is to choose according to your graphic requirements desired by your applications ...

how much and how is it working I mean large data handling ...It works very well. It's a quad core (8 effective cores). At the moment it had only 6GB RAM.
With this, I run 4 virtual machines effortlessly. Each has a SQL server (so 5 instances of a DB). It also has 4 Visual Studio 2010 open at any point in time. And since my work is Graphics related, I usually process quite a few large sized images (each image 500MB, yes no kidding). Only at the time of processing an image it gets a bit laggy, but otherwise fine. It's at a pit stop right now, and I should have it back in a week's time.
The graphics card is an NVidia. It has it's own some 32 cores - so if programs are smart, they can delegate a lot of work to CUDA cores, but from what I gather that's not happening with sql server or VMs.

how much damage it ll do on the pockets? <2k$. But since mine is a corporate laptop I am sure it cost a bit more.

No matter if you get a dell or HP, these are hardware specs you're looking for
Core i7 quad
8-16 GB RAM
160GB + disk
NVidia card with at least 1 GB RAM (Full HD 15.6" display)
9 cell battery
Workstation class laptop
3 years of warranty

Should be about 2k $.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

February 26th, 2012, 05:40 PM
I m thinking of buying a super-Laptop which should be able to handle large data for layered maps.

i7 quad core
win7 with xp compatible
MS office home n business 2010
36 months anti virus
16GB RAM
500-750 GB HDD
NVIDIA (prefer) graphics card with 2/4GB
DVD writer
15-17" LCD HD+(1600X900) LED backlit
cam+mic
wireless LAN b/g/n
bluetooth
3 yrs hardware support
3 yrs NBD onsite service
3 yrs accidental damage
business carrying case ( no backpacks )

Suggestions plz.

what difference the 4GB graphics card will make with 16 GB of RAM and i7 quad core 2.7GHz 8M speed instead of 2GB graphics card.

Awesome:up:
how much does such a laptop cost anyway?

I am not into computers by profession or hobby, so don't know much.

Is this computer the same kind which is shown in hollywood movie that can launch anybody's rocket or something like that? I mean, is your computer that powerful or 'ultimate' or is it just a 9-5 kind of job-machine?
