Air France Flight 447 was a scheduled airline flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009, killing all 216 passengers and 12 aircrew.
A new report by BEA, the French aviation accident investigation agency, on the 2009 crash of Air France Flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in the Atlantic Ocean has found that the crew lacked the appropriate skills to respond to an emergency warning after the plane stalled out due to faulty speed sensors. It said the captain was out of the cockpit on a break when the airspeed sensors iced over and shut down the plane's autopilot

This is not the first time an airplane has crashed due to the airspeed sensors getting iced over. I invite all echarchans to contribute to this thread by engaging in a discussion on how to
1. Develop better pitot tubes
and/or
2. Develop a better more reliable method of determining airspeed.
