These files are created by my CCTV software. I can play them back using the default software only. Can't play them on any other video player.
They are not in MS-DVR format or DVR-MS format. Internet search has proved fruitless. I even tried the much touted Camtasia software but no use. No links to the manufacturer's website.

Thanks guys. I looked up the various things on the net and the links provided by y'all. It seems that the .dvr that my CCTV creates is some kind of proprietary format. I can't play them using any player. Most of them do not even recognise the format.
I found one software, Any Video Converter, which will convert my .dvr files to mpeg4 or avi format. But even then it does not reproduce the date + timestamp. I think the reason is that the .dvr files do not record the date + time in the movie, but in the file name and display it during the playback. The .dvr files are named something like "10-09-09-07-49-23-01.dvr" which is "9th Sep, 2010" "23:49hrs 7 secs" "camera no. 1".
My alternative is a built in backup facility which allows me to save the file in .exe format, which can be played back without using any player.
