Inspired by the gazal thread, I thought of making a collection of some wonderful shayari. Lets put together some nice shers from maestros or contemporary shayars, some heard some unheard gazals etc.

And no derailing, no nonsense posts please.

Wo sharmana tera



subah ka aalam or fooll sa chehra tera,
or khidki se jhank kar yu sharmana tera,
bahut dejhe the haseen duniya me magar,
kehar dhaa gaya dil par ek hi nazarana tera..




dhoop chhanv ka khyaal ab he kisko,
kise he khabar zamaane ki halchal ki,
na bhook he na pyaas he ab ankhon me,
yad he to bus wo muskurana tera...




dil ab seene me mehsoos nahi hota,
aaine me bhi ab mera aks nahi hota,
har jagah bus nazar ati ho tum,
nigahon ne jo dekha he wo ithlana tera....




dekha nahi he jane kab se roshni ko,
fir bhi meri duniya me rangat bahut he,
ghum or khusi ka matlab bhi yad nahi he ab,
aankhon me pad gaya he jo dupatta tera...

Katil Gunah Karke Zamane Main Reh Gaye,
Ek Hum the Ke Asq Bahaane Main Reh Gaye,
Patharon Ka jawab hum De Sakte The Lekin,
Iss Dil Ke Aiane Ko Bachaane Main Reh Gaye.

There is this sher of Mahender Bedi(it could be Rajinder Bedi, memory fails me), which is now included by Mehdi Hasan in his great ghazal "Gulo.n mein rang bhare"

"Hua jo teer-e-nazar neemkash to kya haasil,
Majaa to jab hai, jo jigar ke aar paar chale."

Interestingly, Bedi has taken a diametrically opposite stance to Ghalib who says:

"Koii mere dil se poochhe, tere teer-e-neemkash ko,
Ye khalish kahan se hoti, jo jigar ke paar hota."

Teer-e-neemkash means half drawn arrow.

Dukh nahi ke ab koi sath nahi raha mere
Ab mekhana he kafi hai mera sath nibhaney ke liye

Saqi yoon mujhe har baar bas karney ka na keh
Aaj sara mekhana bhi kam hai dil ki aag bujhaney ke liye

What a coincidence!! Just 15 mins ago I was making really stupid and cheap 'shers' with my roomie while cooking. And then I come here and find this thread. :D
