Do you compromise or settle for less? If so, what would you never compromise and where do you have maximum flexibility?
That is about personal life. In business we always negotiate but I don't think of that as compromise because that makes a deal possible and hopefully that is win win. Do you feel the same?

I always compromise in personal life... very rarely I act stubborn. What would I never compromise to... that would be my family.
I always try to play myself down and let others make fun of me but I don't spare them either and often pull their legs reminding them that they should not feel bad as they should be ready to mocked at when they mock someone else. More often than not it works and even if a person says he/she is offended, they always come back and apologize.

Honestly, I think this question is like scraping the bottom of the barrel for a topic. No offense intended, just my feeling. I say so because its so obvious that in personal life also one has to compromise. There is no way around it.

Sounds like that, doesn't it? But it depends on the attitude of the person. I have come across many family members, mostly younger girls just starting college, for whom compromising is out of question. Let us see if we get that from echans or have they all been seasoned now.
Also people may not compromise on some things but open in other areas. In many cases people seem bent on making conflict resolution complicated by not agreeing to solutions proposed because they think it is compromising, while I don't understand what's their problem in accepting the solutions. We value things differently and this thred would bring that out.

In business, one keeps room for compromise as a rule, space for bargaining etc. The problems are in personal life. I generally don't build in margin for compromise with close people. Painful experience has proved that almost everyone builds margin for compromise, almost everywhere. Of course, one compromises with loved ones, but if one is not prepared earlier for it, one ends up giving more than expected..

I compromise to somebody's objectives when I am in weak position and force other people to compromise to my objectives when I am in strong position:D....believe it or not...this is how everybody act anyway:D

Negotiations you businessmen enter into can hardly be considered a compromise. Its strictly a matter of dollars and cents ... isn't it?

This is normal with most. Depends. It depends on the station on which you got on the train. I am most disposed to compromise when holding higher cards. This doesn't necessarily prove me a poker player cause intention is not to win it all ... but to not force opposition into a corner, and this helps avoid future compromises on the same issue. Compromise after all, to put it simply, is all sides leaving the table with less than original expectations, isn't it? Its an acceptance that I am willing to meet part way. Often I consider my penchant for compromising out of strong position, a character flaw.
Compromising with lesser cards to put it simply, is a submission ... no? Unless of-course one thinks and treats life like a game of poker. Any non-poker-playing person who claims not to bend when given weaker cards is a liar. We live in a world of conflicting needs, wants, and values. Compromise has its place, of course and needless to add, unless one got on the train at Silver Spoon station.

Speaking of morals of compromises ... there are some you would rather give up everything than win even a little. You may have a better story to prove the point, I am reminded of a mofo Akbar and mofo Birbal story from some Akbar Birbal joke book, I read as a child.
In olden times, Kings also did justice business. Two woman approached court of mofo Akbar. Each woman holding each arm of the child. Both woman claimed to be biological mother and wanted custody of the child. Akbar was dumb so he called in personal joker to help solve this case of '2 women claiming to be mothers of 1 child." Joker Birbal called for a sword. He wanted to cut child in two and give one half to each woman. Lying bitch agreed to this compromise. Real mother would have nothing to do with compromise deal and rather give child to lying bitch.
You are better off giving it all away in some instances where compromise present a moral dilemma. I hope someone here can post a more appropriate story to make the point. This is all I can think of at this moment.

In compromising from a stronger position, you only take one step from your stance, whereas the weaker opponent takes three to four steps from his stance to meet you at your first step:D...so technically it is still a compromise as you are not stuck at your stance:D

Yes, I was thinking of moral compromises when starting the thread.
I think there are compromises where people except less good vs more good.. that is not a problem. Challenge comes when people are cornered to accept a moral bad instead of good.
Also it does not always have to be with respect to relationship between two parties as most posts above discussed.

Nahi re... I just realized how I am causing deep pain and irritation to others. Just because I am admin, I dont have a right to irritate others. Also just because I am admin I should not expect others to stop playing naive, ask for evidence of my wrong doings and answer me in the open. I was so wrong. Also I should not analyse what others are thinking. How can I know what they are thinking? I make too many mistakes - semantic and otherwise.
So I have to sorry baba :p

Subbu never compromise. Never for even hero position in the cinema. Earlier only women actors compromise now even men and middle people compromise. Cinema directors and other people full of middle people like Karan Johar and Sharukh Khan and Rakhi Sawanth. Subbu don't compromise. :goodjob:
