Many folks have lost their jobs to their overseas back office operators....but a new wave of job loss could be due to R & D in robotics. Next thing we know that at 25th anniversary is guessing who is real and who is robot at echarcha:D
Mike Schmidt & Hod Lipson at Cornell have developed (April 2009) a program that can detect natural laws from bunch of data...a domain of gifted scientists:D....it is not too far fetched to think that robots will design experiments and build other machines.
Hod Lipson (http://www.mae.cornell.edu/lipson/)
and his important paper in the journal, Science (free download) at his website can be found here, http://ccsl.mae.cornell.edu/presslist?q=natural_laws
If you would like to be spared of details, you might as well read at,
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/04/newtonai/
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2010/07/robot-scientist/
So, some of the R & D from India will come right back into USA, but will not cause much job growth:D
