Following response elsewhere prompted me to start this thread

sometimes its horrible to be born in india powerless, weak and poor.

Who do you think would find it horrible to be born in India?
Powerless
Weak
Poor
Disabled
Upper caste
Lower caste
Minority
Gay
??

Countless people in the world are powerless; many many in India are poor. So that is mainstream. Don't know what weak is, perhaps Indian can explain.

I find that disabled people in India are in the worst situation, though it is slowly improving specially in psychiatric area. But a physical handicap like blindness and loss of limb doesn't get any support and are looked down upon. That is sad.

your question has the answer hidden.
what you said...mainstream is powerless. A majority are powerless in a democracy. is it not self-explanatory ?

Its been 63 years we have got independence.
Most of the mainstream hesitate to step-in to a police station, to get justice. The law & order , justice system is terrible in india.
dont know wether you have expereinced police and court's hospitality in india ever. i have experienced it several times, the less we talk about the better.

you simpliy need contacts and money to survive with honour in india. Yes, there is also one other way how the mainstream survives in india...the MAI BAAP method. haath baand ke khade raho thanedaar ke samne ...if the inspector gets mercy on you ..then you are lucky.

now...you want me to compare myself with physically handicapped and feel happy that how lucky i am, to have all my parts in place. I used to appreciate this argument a lot 10 years back , but not now.I relaized, It is such a looser mentality of an average indian citizen. Like our indian cricket team :D they get screwed left and right with all teams (recently zimbabwe and srilanka :D) but are always happy that sachin(GOD) is still playing..and will continue another decade.

To give you a classic example.

I follow a rape and murder case of young woman(Ayesha Meera) from Vijaywada of Andhra Pradesh. The real culprit was grand son of former deputy CM of Andhra , a political heavy weight from dearest congress. The victim is from poor background. Every one knows what the truth is. But police and judiciary simply close their eyes and instead of arresting real suspect , they caught a small time thief Satyam Babu and keeps harassing him.

lOCAL Media makes quite a lot of noise on this issue, but they cannot do anything. Not even a feather moves ! Since the girl was a muslim , some activists went to muslim leaders like MIM chief Owaisi and others but they themselves are not interested to pursue this case. MIM is in close ties with Congress. These are the rare moments some crude realities strike me like lightning. The muslim leaders who make so much noise of persecution and discrimination , do not even fight for their own young innocent lady who was brutally raped and murdered. And they claim to be leaders and representatives of muslims.

the all powerfull police commisioner of vijaywada tried to encounter satyam babu (http://wwww.fullhyderabad.com/hyderabad-news/ayesha-meera-case-accused-escapes-in-suryapet-707), who is falsely accused. the judiciary says the prime suspect can go abroad and enjoy holiday in switzerland. The CM is busy protecting his chair, from YSR's son's rowdy gang of MLAs.Chandra babu Naidu is enjoying holiday with his son lokesh in USA. while satyam babu rots in prison for no reason and ayesha's family has to face this undeserving discrimination for being in the "mainstream" of power less and poor.

now ....this is what i meant.
ok..now lets be happy that we are going to see the real face of india once again here http://www.echarcha.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33919&page=2
be happy , you are not handicapped.

We Indians, we've adapted to the conditions we're living in.

And plus, instead of going on and on and on about the system. I strongly believe the everything was just meant to be. Yes. We Indians were 'Supposed' to be known as beings, that survive by this magical tactic called 'jugaad'. Yes!

People struggle a lot here. I agree. That's life. Its like this plate your mommy/ wifey puts infront of you. Good or bad. You gotta finish it up.

Diversity is natural. Every nation can't be the same.

One thing I don't like is that, if you tell fellow Indians about the handicapped system we've got. They get all senti.

I accept my nation for what it is. However it is. I love it. Maybe I got no choice, but still.

Tedha hai, par mera hai.

It is great that you love India and are proud of it, however that is not what this thread is about. I am not here to bash India and I am as proud a citizen of India as you seem to be. A majority of people accept the system and work around it. I feel it is just harder for a blind or handicapped guy than a poor person or gay, and wanted to know if what others felt.

Also all that is not static; as I mentioned there has been significant improvement specially in psychiatric area where people are now more aware of ADHD, Autism etc so attitudes are changing and people are becoming more considerate. Perhaps three hundred years ago the balvidhvas had it the hardest, which is not even relevant in today's world and the horrible sati stuff is completely behind us. So yes, times have changed and all indians across these ages have still been proud indians and loved it.
