Namaste eCharchans,
Unfortunately, USA joins the club of those countries whose membership requires a terrorist attack on its people and cities.
It is very shocking and sad and enraging.
We hope and pray for the souls of the dead people and wish to extend our support to the relatives of the vitims.
How are all of you and any relatives in NY and Washingtomn area?

Twin terror attacks stagger U.S.
Financial markets, Manhattan and much of the nation are shut down after hijacked planes ram the World Trade Center, toppling the twin towers. The Pentagon in Washington also attacked; the U.S. military is on full alert.
Much of Manhattan is shut down after the twin 1,400-foot towers of the World Trade Center collapsed, struck by two commercial planes in what could be the worst terror attack ever on U.S. soil.
The fate of the thousands who work in those twin skyscrapers was unknown as rescue workers poured into lower Manhattan even as the financial district shut down and much of the island was being evacuated. Another attack hit the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Four commercial jetliners were reportedly hijacked and crashed in the attacks.
The SEC canceled all stock trading for the day, and CNBC reported that trading would likely not resume until Monday.
The FAA shut down air traffic throughout the nation, and buildings across the nation and even in London closed down. The White House and most federal buildings in Washington closed their doors.
MSNBC.com reporter Martin Wolk, who was inside one of the towers, told that Web site the lights flickered and then a loud bang was heard when the first plane struck about 9 a.m. People panicked and started to flee the building.
When they reached the lobby, smoke started to fill the building and people could see debris falling and many cars outside were damaged. “It was sheer pandemonium, people were screaming and crying, afraid to go outside because of the falling debris,” Wolk said. “We looked up and it looked like the top 20 floors were in flames.”
Shortly after 9 a.m., with news cameras already broadcasting the image of the burning towers, the second plane struck and exploded in a huge fireball.
President George W. Bush called the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City this morning "apparent terrorist attacks" and a national tragedy.
"Terrorism against our nation will not stand,'' Bush said.
The president made the statements before returning to Washington, D.C., this morning from his two-day visit to Florida. He was supposed to make an appearance at an elementary school to promote literacy.
Smoke poured from the towers and filled the financial district and lower Manhattan.
"It is pitch black," CNBC's Maria Bartiromo said of the scene on Wall Street. "You are basically surrounded by smoke and debris coming at you. Earlier, we actually saw bodies coming out of the top of the World Trade Center." See her video report here.
Bartiromo was reporting from inside the New York Stock Exchange, which she says has suffered no internal damage. She also described the scene outside when the World Trade Center towers fell:
"There was a huge explosion, noise. Everyone on Broadway ran for their lives, including myself."
Flights to tragedy
Four flights -- two from United Airlines, two from American Airlines -- are known to have been involved in the attacks today. American flight 11, en route to Los Angeles from Boston, is believed to have been one of the two planes that crashed into the World Trade Center. The other is believed to have been United flight 175, which took off from Boston on the way to Los Angeles.
American flight 77, with 64 people on board, crashed into the Pentagon; it had been bound for Los Angeles from Washington’s Dulles airport. And finally, United flight 93, en route to San Francisco from Newark, N.J., reportedly went down somewhere south of Pittsburgh.
United has confirmed that 110 people were on board its two flights. American said 164 people had been aboard its flights. All were presumed dead.
Buildings shut down; Fed open
The attacks that paralyzed New York and Washington also shut down buildings and offices across the nation. But the Federal Reserve stayed open.
Across the country, skyscrapers like Chicago’s Sears Trade tower were being evacuated as a precaution. Buildings were also being evacuated in London. Ford was closing and evacuating its Dearborn, Mich., offices.
Major league baseball also shut down for the day, canceling games across the country. Kennedy Space Center in Florida and Hoover Dam in Nevada were closed.
U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is not currently at the Fed's Washington building, the central bank said on Tuesday following a series of devastating attacks on Washington and New York landmarks.
``The chairman is not at the board,'' said Fed spokesman David Skidmore. ``We do not discuss or provide details of his travel plans.''
CNBC reported that Greenspan was safe and that he was still in Basel, Switzerland, where he had been attending a central bankers' meeting.
The Federal Reserve said it was open and operating and that its discount window will provide liquidity to financial markets as needed.
Evacuations were under way at the New York Stock Exchange, the New York Mercantile Exchange and many banks.
``We're evacuating the building,'' said Vincent Palazzolo, chief trader at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. offices in midtown Manhattan.
Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., across the street from the NYSE, called clients to ask them to stop requesting trades. Banc One Capital Markets in Chicago is evacuating its offices, said Heather Boyer at the bank's foreign exchange sales desk in Chicago.
``At first everyone was calm, then when the theory changed to it being terrorism, the dollar seemed to move lower,'' said Nick Parsons, global head of currency research at Commerzbank AG in London.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade suspended trading for the day at 9:15 a.m. Merc stock index futures had been delayed after the New York Stock Exchange delayed its equity index market opening.
The Chicago Board Options Exchange and Chicago Stock Exchange also suspended operations. Local brokerage firms closed their offices for the day.
Bond market closes
Stock trading never opened this morning, and U.S. Treasuries were frozen at higher levels this morning when the Bond Market Association recommended an immediate close.
Prices had opened mixed with long-dated securities on the weaker side, but the disaster that subsequently engulfed downtown Manhattan inspired a flight to quality that pushed prices of U.S. government debt higher.
In Europe, shares in insurers plunged after the landmark attacks, a possible sign of what will happen when U.S. markets eventually reopen.
The Dow Jones European Stoxx insurance sector <.SXIP> fell 8.5%, while the Eurotop insurance index dived 9.64%.
Insurance companies could face claims running into billions of dollars stemming from the incident. A U.S. insurance industry official told Reuters damage could cost insurers billions of dollars. U.S. airlines could face similar claims.
Dollar keeps sliding, gold and oil surge
The dollar and some bonds continue to trade, because they are not bound to any particular exchange. By midday, the dollar lost about 1% against the euro, 1.5% against the Japanese yen and more than 2% versus the Swiss franc. Global investors clearly are parking their money in countries perceived as removed from today's attacks.
Commodities prices have soared. Benchmark crude-oil futures surged about $1.85 to close at $29.30, lifted by knee-jerk fears of an oil shortage. And gold, traditionally viewed as the safest hedge against market adversity, soared some $17 an ounce in European trade.
``There is panic buying of metals, gold and oil -- it is complete pandemonium,'' said Robin Bhar, metals analyst at Standard Bank London. ``Gold and oil have gone up and it is a drive toward safe haven territory.''
European stock indexes slide
The pan-European FTSE Eurotop 300 has lost 4.5% of its value, and indexes in major European capitals were lower. Some European markets closed temporarily, while others remained open.
Insurance burden will be huge
The human and political damage of today's attack is impossible to calculate, but one corporate casualty is sure to be the insurance industry. Claims will easily reach into the billions of dollars, according to industry experts quoted by the news services.
"It is safe to assume claims will be in the billions," Robert Hartwig, chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute, told Reuters. He says losses from intentional attacks generally would be covered.
Among the largest property/casualty insurers are AIG (AIG, news, msgs), Allianz (AZ, news, msgs) and Allstate (ALL, news, msgs).
Inside the towers
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter is the largest tenant in New York's World Trade Center, Bloomberg reports.
Morgan Stanley occupies 12.5 percent in tower 2, followed by the 10-million square foot complexes' owner, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which occupies 9 percent of the space.
ABM Industries (ABM, news, msgs) has 800 or more janitorial and facilities workers who staff the Trade Center during various shifts. The Trade Center is ABM's largest job site, contributing annual sales of $65 million (3% of the company's annual revenue).
As many as 200,000 people pass through the complex on a typical weekday, including 40,000 who work there and 50,000 taking the PATH trains that connect New York and New Jersey.
The property was also attacked in February 1993, when terrorists set off a bomb in an underground garage in an effort to cause the collapse of both towers. The explosion killed six and caused $525 million of damage.

All-American Nightmare
For half a century, the US has basked in the certainty of its commercial and military invulnerability. Now the confidence of the post-war era has been blasted away for ever
by Mary Dejevsky
12 September 2001
The horror of it; the scale of it; the symbolism of it... Hour after hour after hour, television news presenters had to convince their viewers, and surely themselves, that the pictures rolling across their screens were not from some Hollywood disaster epic, but real.
Yesterday's coordinated attacks on the nerve centres of American power were Pearl Harbor and Oklahoma City, Apocalypse Now and The Towering Inferno all rolled into one: the ultimate American nightmare. Within a matter of minutes, the most powerful country in the world, a land at the height of its global influence and wealth, was reduced to a gibbering, panicked state of siege. Its phone lines were blocked; its air space was closed, its crack fighter planes were scrambled to protect the skies over Washington. Their orders were to shoot down any plane in the sky – this, in a country where thousands of planes ply the air-lanes every hour. The White House and Capitol Hill were evacuated.
Real-time video testified to the impotence of authority in the face of such devastation and fear. We saw fire-engines racing towards the White House, so small and so obviously futile against an out-of-control threat from the air. We saw the World Trade Centre towers, first one then the other, as they crumbled into vast clouds of smoke, one with the errant plane still wedged in its side. And we heard President Bush – never the most impressive of presences or the most articulate of speakers – pledge to "hunt down the folks" who had committed such atrocities, and then call for a minute of silence.
The faces of those who had fled the vicinity of the World Trade Centre said it all: not just terror, but disbelief, and not just disbelief, but a sense of humiliation as well. Attacked first in 1993 by Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, the towers had long been fully repaired and back in service. The first edifice that many arriving visitors to the city saw and recognised, they were a hallmark of American corporate wealth, just as much a symbol of New York City and the United States as the Statue of Liberty, and in some ways a more apposite comment on the US at the start of the 21st century. Those towers are no more.
To target only the Trade Towers would have sent one message; to target the Pentagon as well, and perhaps also the Capitol and the White House, was nothing less than a multiple strike at the essence of America's global reach: not just its commercial dominance, but its military might as well. The Pentagon, the bastion of the US defence establishment, was severely damaged. That both centres should have proved so vulnerable on the very same day, at almost the same hour, ranks as a failure of cataclysmic proportions, however hard to detect and prevent the attacks might have been.
In the inquest on which the United States was almost too shocked to embark last night, every angle will be explored, calling into question every aspect of the American way of doing things. It will start with the failure of intelligence that allowed so expertly organised an attack on such sensitive landmarks, and continue with the failure of airport security that enabled at least four commercial aircraft to be hijacked from US domestic airports within minutes of each other, and flown to destruction.
Security, for all its cool and formalistic efficiency, has never been the United States' strong point. Between the paranoid suspicion of all things alien and the blissful acceptance of all things American, there is a wide gap through which assassins and terrorists can pass. US intelligence and security institutions have always had difficulty penetrating the mind of an enemy. The notion that any one person, let alone an organised group, could place their cause – whatever it is – above life itself is simply beyond American understanding. They find it hard to comprehend suicide bombings in the Middle East or in Sri Lanka; on their home territory, it is a matter for straight disbelief.
It was still uncertain last night who it was that had perpetrated perhaps the world's most costly act of terrorism. The first instincts of Americans are to look outside their borders to known enemies, such as the Afghanistan-based mastermind Osama bin Laden, who are ritually demonised – often beyond all reason – and automatically blamed for any attacks on Americans wherever they may take place in the world, and regardless of the group's known resources. The bombing of the US federal building in Oklahoma City six years ago was an object lesson here, which taught the dangers of such assumptions. The nationwide search for Islamic terrorists slowed down the search for the real culprit, who was apprehended almost by accident by a combination of basic police work and a cop with a gut feeling. This time, the authorities – if not public opinion – may be more circumspect.
So paralysed was America in the aftermath of the two-centred conflagration that any accurate information was almost impossible to come by yesterday. By lunchtime on the east coast of the United States, there was still not even an approximate figure for the numbers of those killed and injured just after breakfast-time. How many victims could there be, from two office towers accommodating 20,000 workers apiece, from four hijacked planes that had crashed (with or without passengers), from the ruins of a wing of the Pentagon? The scale of the possible carnage passed comprehension, and will continue to do so even as the hard facts emerge.
Beyond the personal tragedies of the individuals and the families whose lives will be changed forever, the greatest and longest-lasting damage of all will be to the American psyche. America has always stood apart from other countries by its grand designs, its ingrained optimism and its sense of well-being. However beleaguered individuals, institutions and governments might be at any one time, America felt good about itself; that was the enduring quality of the nation.
One response to this multiple act of destruction in the two centres of American power could be defiance and perhaps a feeling of national solidarity. But Americans, unlike Britons, are unused to comprehensive adversity. The spirit of the Blitz is not something Americans have experienced collectively, even in a previous generation. They are not used to collective insecurity, except personal insecurity on dangerous city streets. And as a people, they are not accustomed to having their authority – or their innate goodness or rightness – challenged. When that challenge is as devastating and as comprehensive as it was yesterday, optimism will give way to angst.
In the weeks and months to come, every American certainty will be questioned: from the competence of its authorities at every level, to the workings of the X-ray machines at its airports. Whereas before, abroad was the place to fear, and the US was the place of comfort and refuge and safety, now the home front will also be the cause of much apprehension. The President will be called upon to lead as never before, and it will show the mettle of the man if he can do that. Nothing in his life or career so far has prepared George Bush the younger for such a task, and few can be confident that he will show himself equal to it.
Although politicians will come together, as they do without question, at a time of so all-embracing a national crisis, one of the pillars of Mr Bush's programme has been blown as effectively to dust as the World Trade Centre. What price National Missile Defence now? What price stray missiles from North Korea, if the country is not capable of protecting Lower Manhattan and the Pentagon from planes hijacked from its own American airports? The billions of dollars may be better spent securing the country against seemingly random threats from elsewhere.
Tuesday, 11 September 2001, will go down in America's annals as the day that changed everything. It was the day that a nation's confidence was shattered during morning rush-hour in New York City, and its defensive might was mocked at coffee-time in Washington. It was the American dream smashed to bits in the style of a Hollywood spectacular – that turned out not to be Hollywood after all.

Canadian airports closed after terrorist attacks in U.S.
Canadian Press
All Canadian airports were shut down indefinitely Tuesday morning, with all domestic and international flights grounded, in the aftermath of confusion over terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, said a senior government source in Ottawa.
Airports were accepting U.S. flights already in the air following the bombing that needed to be diverted to airports outside the U.S.
The shutdown was confirmed by a spokesman for the Calgary Airport Authority.
“All Canadian airspace has been closed other than for inbound overseas flights,” said Mike Cunnington.
Airports were scrambling to find extra staff to provide information to thousands of passengers stranded as a result of the cancellations.

The attack on the Pentagon appeared to take place on the Army side of the building, said retired Gen. Wesley Clark, former supreme commander of NATO.
"We've known for some time that some group has been planning" such an assault, he told CNN, adding that "obviously, we didn't do enough" to prepare for one.
The FBI suspects the events in New York and Washington are part of an organized terrorist campaign, a senior government official said.
Authorities immediately began deploying troops, including a regiment of light infantry, in Washington.

After spending 2 hrs in a grid lock at Constitution Avenue......all i can say it that all is fine.
Went in the morning to meet a client at K street when news started pouring in.
First thaught that it was just a mountain out of a mole hill...untill i put on the radio and sat in my car...and the first things that came to my mouth was Oh ****!..not again.
Last time i was closer to the bomb blasts was when i was in bombay and we had the bomb blasts....i was walking towards the Air India building from the LIC building and heard an explosion and just rocked me off the ground......comign out it was like a war zone out there.
The view in DC was less horrific except for the traffic for everyone was asked to evacuate . Phone calls from office couldnt get through for all circuits were busy. Smoke could be seen belowing in the skyline from behind the National Monument...and i knew that this was bad.
Finally my sister from dubai got through to me, and she was like hysterical and wondered if everything was ok. Sitting in the car and ponding over thoughts I realized man, if it was two weeks ago on the long weekend, i would have been toast, for we took some friends to the observatory of the WTC in NY.
Finally after reaching the office and seeign the devastation.......all i can say is that God, may al those who lost their lives, may their souls rest in peace.
And to you guys who commited this act........."You guys are going to go down for this.....you are going to be hunted and fried"

Is anyone else furious? 11:52AM PDT, Sep 11, 2001
I am utterly dismayed and disgusted with the total lack of outrage expressed by the news media and by our president (he doesn't deserve a capital "P"). We've lost more people in these incidents than we did at Pearl Harbour. A different kind of President was able to galvanize public opinion with a speech that characterized Dec 6, 1941 as a day that would "live in infamy". We have heard that so much that it sounds trite but have we also lost the ability to rise up as one people and present a fearful visage to our enemies? Every state that protects or encourages or finances terrorists should feel the full weight of our outrage. Bombs should fall, all over the middle east, bank accounts of all enemy states should be seized, all trade should cease. Ports should be blockaded. Ambassadors to the UN should hear a special address demanding that all hostile actions including declarations of "holy war" against the United States will cease or we will cause them to cease by destroying their ability to make such statements. It's time for the world to truly feel the wrath of the American people. We should coldly warn Russia and China that interferrence will not be tolerated. This in not a time to say "Please" as we did to get our spy plane back from China. We are being targeted partly because we are seen as cowards who will take any abuse without striking back. ARE WE COWARDS? WILL WE JUST SAY "PLEASE" HELP US FIND THOSE RESPONSIBLE? Have we found and punished those who planned the attack on the USS Cole?

I have seen celebrations where I am right now with candy being distributed and victory being claimed so there certainly is a link round here somewhere....lets wait for the FBI to find it....eaiser to sy the US should do this and that and beat the ****ing daylight outta all those responsible but who are they and how do you go about beating the above mentioned outta them??

BUT, don't you think the public deserved to hear better words than the wimpy phrases he used???
US- the most porwerful country in the world - we would expect stronger words, condemnation from it's president. Agreed you cannot target any nation without proof or not can we pinpoint at the perpetrators right now, because in all reality we do not know who they are. Was listening on CNN - Sandy Berger says first we have to identify which group has done it and then find out which nation support that Group. and then that Nation is should be targetted for retaliation.
By that standard from India's perspective , It is LET which is doing similar terrorists activities in India and Pakistan gives "moral"support..
With the same standard , Washington believes New delhi shd declare a War against Islamabad????

Man Called From Plane Before It Crashed in Pennsylvania
Tuesday, September 11, 2001
Email this Article
SHANKSVILLE, Pa. — A United Airlines jetliner crashed Tuesday morning in western Pennsylvania, the airline said. Minutes earlier, a man who said he was a passenger on the plane told an emergency dispatcher in a cell phone call: "We are being hijacked, we are being hijacked!"
United said 45 people were aboard Flight 93 from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco. The fate of the passengers was not immediately announced. The Boeing 757 crashed north of Somerset County airport, about 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, following terrorism attacks in New York City and in Washington, D.C.
The crash was one of four reported Tuesday by United and American Airlines. Two crashed into the World Trade Center and one hit the Pentagon in Washington.
In Pennsylvania, an emergency dispatcher received a cell phone call at 9:58 a.m. from a man who said he was a passenger locked in a bathroom aboard United Flight 93, said dispatch supervisor Glenn Cramer in neighboring Westmoreland County. The man repeatedly told officials the call was not a hoax.
"We are being hijacked, we are being hijacked!" Cramer quoted the man from a transcript of the call.
The man told dispatchers the plane "was going down. He heard some sort of explosion and saw white smoke coming from the plane and we lost contact with him," Cramer said.
Flight 93 crashed about 10 a.m. about 8 miles east of Jennerstown, according to officials at the scene.
"There's a crater gorged in the earth, the plane is pretty much disintegrated. There's nothing left but scorched trees," said Mark Stahl of Somerset who went to the scene.
He described the area as a former strip mine that is now a grassy field edged by woods. The plane came down near the tree line, he said.
Michael R. Merringer was out on a mountain bike ride with his wife, Amy, about two miles away from the crash site.
"I heard the engine gun two different times and then I heard a loud bang and the windows of the houses all around rattled," Merringer said. "I looked up and I saw the smoke coming up."
The couple rushed home and drove near the scene.
"Everything was on fire and there was trees knocked down and there was a big hole in the ground," he said.
United said Flight 93 left Newark at 8:01 a.m. with 38 passengers, two pilots and five flight attendants.
In Chicago, United CEO James Goodwin said the airline is working with authorities including the FBI. United said it was sending a team to Pennsylvania to assist in the investigation and to provide assistance to family members.
"Today's events are a tragedy and our prayers are with everyone at this time," Goodwin said.
In Pennsylvania's Richland Township, police Chief Jim Mock said air traffic control coordinators reported Tuesday morning that a large aircraft was heading toward John Murtha Johnstown Cambria County Municipal Airport in the township, about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.
The air traffic controllers said the aircraft would not identify itself, according to Mock, who is also the airport's emergency coordinator. Shortly after talking to the controllers, Mock said, a plane crashed north of the Somerset County airport about 20 miles away.
"It shook the whole station," said Bruce Grine, owner of Grine's Service Center in Shanksville, about 2 miles from the crash. "Everybody ran outside, and by that time the fire whistle was blowing."
Because of the attacks in New York, the Federal Aviation Administration had ordered all departing flights canceled nationwide, and any planes already in the air were to land a the nearest airport. The Pennsylvania crash came after the order was issued.
After the crashes the three passenger terminals at Newark International Airport were evacuated. At 11:30 a.m., several hundred people were still clustered at the Terminal A baggage carousel, while shotgun-toting officers patrolled. Ticket counters were deserted.
At San Francisco International Airport, an evacuation was ordered. Bomb-sniffing dogs patrolled the emptying hallways and a counseling center was set up for relatives of the people aboard Flight 93.
"This is a time for compassion. It's not a time for long sermons," said the Rev. John Delariva, a Catholic priest who is part of the airport's counseling team.
Flight 93 also operated as a code-share flight with Air Canada as Flight AC4085.

DesiBaba, please dont joke about the President of the USA or anything as this is a difficult time for all and what else do you expect out of him? The US govt. still does not know who did it or maybe they know and dont wish to make it public foir security and other reasons.
The US President George W. Bush has warned that USA will not sit tight but will pursue and punish the cowards who did this. The US PResident's statement makes me feel more safe than a statement by our Prime Minister. Atleast we can be sure that when US Presindet says something he does it, unlike our Prime Minister who just kisses ass of the terrorists, gives them safe passage and release terrorists in a hostage situation and ultimately declares unilateral ceasefire

Officials: New information points to bin Laden
September 11, 2001 Posted: 6:07 PM EDT (2207 GMT)
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. officials investigating the series of attacks Tuesday in New York and Washington are setting their sights on Osama bin Laden, the millionaire Saudi fugitive who has been blamed for past terrorist attacks against American targets.
"There are good indications that persons linked to Osama bin Laden may be responsible for these attacks," an intelligence official told CNN.
Intelligence sources said they based their assessment on new information they had gathered Tuesday afternoon, hours after airplanes slammed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. They did not rule out the possibility that other groups may have been involved.
Terrorism experts, after reviewing the magnitude of the attacks, said few groups in the world would have the resources to carry out such a highly coordinated sequence of destruction. One of those organizations, they said, would be the Al Quaida group headed by bin Laden, who also is the suspected mastermind of the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.

A positive thing would be : No more cross border terrorism in Kashmir which is being sponsored and trained by Afghanistan!

Kashmir militants claim US terror attacks
Karachi, Sep 12
A Pakistan-based Islamic militant group fighting against Indian rule in Kashmir on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the wave of terrorist attacks in the United States.
The hardline Lashkar-i-Taiba said its suicide bombers had hijacked jets which plunged into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Tuesday morning, in attacks which it is feared killed thousands.
There was no way to verify the claim independently, and US officials have pointed the finger of blame at Afghan-based Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden.
"The attack was carried out by our fidayeen (suicidal group) led by commander Abu Samama," Lashkar spokesman Khalid Saif said in a statement faxed to AFP in this southern Pakistani city.
"The attacks on the World Trade Centre and other places were not an act of terrorism but an Islamic duty."

The IBM guys and many other office people were evacuated and are standing on the streets ..including me :(
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (CNN) -- Reports of a bomb threat at IBM's head office in Malaysia have surfaced after the bomb scare evacuation of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
"We learned there was also a threat received at the IBM tower which is located on a suburb of Kuala Lumpur -- a 24 story high building," Reuters Kuala Lumpur Bureau Chief Simon Cameron-Moore told CNN in a phone interview.
"The police sent a squad there," said Cameron-Moore. "And the search still going on."
Six thousand employees from Reuters and other Petronas Towers-based companies evacuated the tallest building in the world after the police were alerted that a bomb would explode at 0900 local time.
The employees have returned to the Towers, but stores in the building's shopping center remain closed.
Reports quote police officials as saying they now suspect the call was a prank, but said they were taking no chances following the airplane attacks in New York and Washington.
The attacks in New York City began shortly before 0900 local time Tuesday. Cameron-Moore said the terror attacks in the U.S. "were in the minds of the people" who were evacuated

WASHINGTON (AP) - The FBI (news - web sites) has received 700 leads in the investigation
of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington but no arrests have been made, a Justice
Department (news - web sites) official said Wednesday.
The government believes the hijackers were trained pilots and that three to five were aboard
each of four airliners that crashed Tuesday in the worst terrorist attack ever in the United States,
said Justice Department spokeswoman Mindy Tucker. She said the conclusion was based on
information gathered from frantic phone calls made by passengers on the doomed jets.
``It appears from what we know that the hijackers were skilled pilots,'' said Tucker.
Tucker declined to comment on evidence linking the attacks to Saudi exile Osama bin Laden
(news - web sites) or whether authorities have executed search warrants.
Lawmakers believe bin Laden may have been behind the attacks. ``I don't think everyone in
Congress has enough information to make those assumptions,'' said Tucker.
She said investigators are following all credible leads, but declined to comment on whether the
government is close to arresting anyone. The 700 tips came from a special FBI Web site seeking
information on the attacks.

I still recollect, I came home very early that tuesday evening in Thane and for some reason kept the TV on and what do I see. Breaking news reports of the first plane crash and the reporter could not believe what has just happened. They were talking about unfortunate accident etc etc until, the second plane crashed. I just could not believe my eyes, when the cameras were focusing on the burning first building, suddenly someone said that another plane is coming in the same direction and the cameras focused on it only to see that it crashed into the second building. I couldn't believe my eyes as I see history folding live before my eyes and that to for a guy like me who never reached home befor 10 pm in those days. The later scenes of the buildings collapsing was so unreal, I couldn't just believe, even the reporter cried "oh my God, oh my God". Those were really some defining moments of my life which I could never forget.

The later scenes of the buildings collapsing was so unreal, I couldn't just believe, even the reporter cried "oh my God, oh my God". Those were really some defining moments of my life which I could never forget.
