Many of us have had to pull over for a Highway Patrol in our stay in the USA.

Can you share your traffic violation 'ticketing' experiences here?

Many have to go to the traffic school for a full day course and then submit this certificate to the DMV. This allows you to not have a point against your license. Your experience of these schools too should be interesting to read here ;)

i wasn't driving. My friend was. Touched 100mph for like 15 mts. Came down to 85. Heard sirens. Stopped the car. Night and was raining. The polce car stopped behind us. For 2 minutes they just focussed the headlights at us and kept looking. Police man came over, and knocked on the window. Friend was a surd. Rolled window down.
"Sir, how are you doing?"
"Good. How are you?"
"I stopped you for driving at 85mph. May I know the reason"
"errr....ummm...sorry. We didn't reallise"
"Can i see your licence and registration papers?"

He went back to his car, and came back in 2 minutes.

"Sir, I have given you a ticket for $275 for violating the speed limit restrictions. You can either pay by post ... "

End of story.

Only one experience.. I was pulled over for turning right on red in NYC. I had just exited the holland tunnel into NYC and there was no board saying no turn on red in NYC. I got a ticket.. I mailed it with a letter saying.. I wish to plead not gulity but I am too busy to come to the court. The not guilty plea is based on the question that how will a NJ driver know there is NTOR all over NYC? There are no boards to tell that to an out of state driver. The court returned the check without cashing it and cancelling the ticket. This was in 1997. Otherwise I have no traffic violations.

for speeding at 80 miles/hour on a 65 speed limit on Highway I-15 in San Diego.

The officer explained that I need to go to driving school for a good driver course and include the certificate along with the ticket. This would ensure that I wont get a point against my license.

So I waited for the ticket to arrive. My room-mate had been to one such course conducted in the DMV premises itself and he said that it was so damn boring. They bombared him with videos of crashes and bad driving and drilled him endlessly with sermons about good driving. Finally he got throguh that and was so scared of such courses that he is now a better driver :)

So I decided to look up other approved course schools. There was one conducted by some guy who said that his is a Comedy Driving School. It was set on a Saturday early morning in a restaurant. I went there bleary eyed with another friend who too had a ticket.

The whole day this moron who must have had aspirations of being a stand up comic, bored us with his stupid jokes about driving and conducting Jeopardy type of questions and answers. He kept at his absolute dhakkan jokes throughout and finally the torture ended.

Since then I always look at the rear view mirror to detect cops on motorcycles and in cars. Its good that the highway patrol cars in CA have lights on top and you can detect them even at night by looking at the silhouette of the car. What has happened to my driving? Well I now speed ;) with my eyes on the rear view mirror :D

He replied "Why I would not give you ticket ?"
"I make my living doing just that !"

One suggestion -

Never drive recklessly during the month end.

Police sometimes are out there just waiting to ticket someone - they have quotas too. If by month end if that is not fulfilled, then god help anyone who comes his way.

Honest - I am not joking!
