Is it worth immigrating to canada? GC seems to be taking too long in US. Anyone here knows someone who immigrated to canada from US? If so how was the experience?

If U R uncertain about job and not working on Thekedari( I mean S/W Consultant aka Gate Hiring guy) then it is not a bad option as a standby.
IF you have regular Job on H1 and get laid off for some reason, it becomes tought to get a New H1 transfer filing within 30 days.
Have lot of know people done that....it is always a better option than going back to India; Unless You have any compulsion to stay in India

I know folks who had H1B and GC was in process. At that time this one year extension at a time to your H1 if GC in process was not there. So they went to Canada. Worked outy of Canada office of the company. Aftere 18 months they got a fresh H1 and came back. Then later theire GC was done. Consult an immigration lawyer for your specific situation before you begin any process.
Over last few years I don't know the job situation in Canada, so consider if there are enough opportunities. From friends who have done the temporary Canada thing, the phrase one used is 'its a good enough holding cell before you get released back in US.'

Hi Man i moved to Calgary Alberta from Dallas a year ago and so for things are good.
I found Calgary is costly compared to Dallas, weather is cold over here, Again you have advantages and disadvantages.
I moved here after finding a job, if you can do the same that will be excellent as jobs are less in canada when compared to US

I know. However, I have canadian PR since almost 3 years ago. You have to move to canada within 3 years in order to maintain canadian PR otherwise they revoke it. This was mostly meant to be a backup incase I lose my job. I need to make a decision in the next 2 months incase I want to maintain the canadian PR. Most probably I will not move as it will be too big of a hassle.
Does anyone here know that once a person with a canadian PR gives it up, it is possible to reapply after some time.

If you are in IT don't go to Canada if you don't have to. There are no IT jobs there and life sucks.
If GC takes long time, so what ? If you have survived here on H1 for 4-5 years you cannot last more ?
I know the lure of GC where you can work any job or your wife can work..... But remeber nothing pays more then IT. So if you have that freedom to do any job in Canada , what job will you do ? $9/ hr ?
What kind of job will your wife do ? Wal-mart ? If you want your wife tyo work here too hten train her in IT and someone will do her H1
Worst case scenario, go back to INdia and come back here.

I think Dirty pai has hit the nail on the head...
I know many "progressive" desis coming from Canada who are citizens/have PR who have come to US to get IT jobs. I can met with at least twenty if not mote such desi guys. I know two Punjabi guys from Toronto whose families are doing pretty well in Canada and they both had IT jobs but with the Canadian Govt. They left that to advance in their careers and leave their families trucking / restaurant and desi store business... good decision... both are only 27 with about 2.5-3 years of .NET experience... excellent starting point i would believe...

Canada is a very big country.. 2nd biggest after Russia
....I dont know about whole canada....but Some Canadian provice are far better than any US state
eg Saskatchewan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatchewan)...

I am sure you already know that Canada is a beautiful country with lots of opportunities. Even though it’s been hit by the global credit crunch, it’s still doing better than many countries with many major banks performance being great in the first quarter itself.
Look into the below blog if you get a chance. Life in Canada, challenges to get a PR and many more details have been discussed here extensively. I hope this will be of some use to you.

If you have options stick it out in US. We indians don't ride snow mobiles, we dont play ice hockey and we don't speak french . Why would we want to live in Canada.

Yes, IT opportunities are limited in Canada or at least that’s what I keep hearing. Surprisingly though, all my friends could make it to IT jobs with really good pay. I guess it also depends on which province you are in as well. Some of them seem to be doing well than the others, like in most countries.
As far as Canada being racist or not, others in this forum seem to be very knowledgeable about it (Negative side of Canada). I don’t know what experiences they have come across to arrive at this conclusion, so let me not even try to dispute their argument.
Speaking for myself, I, having lived in Canada for over 16 years now, dont think Canada is racist country. I think the contrary.

That's because of all the wine you have... wine makes your mind fuzzy and your eyes foggy... that way everyone looks warm and friendly:D
Anyway racist is what racist does... Durry pai himself is so racist, that everyone looks racist to him. He even calls me racist, can you believe that:D
Sane that was before I realized your love for Islam. After I found out how much you love muslims I stopped.
and I am not rasicst.
I have no problem with whites , Paki Taxi Drivers , Black felons and Mexican Gardners. I also have no problems with korean dry cleaner and gulti software programmers.
I also buy tickets from vegetarian , canadian travel agents. And of course I completely approve same travel agent sleeping with his canadian chaddi partner.

Anybody knows how Canada got its name?
Well, a bunch of early settlers got together and said, "What do we call this wonderful place?"
So they decided to write down letters of the English alphabet in little pieces of paper and put them all in a hat. Then pull one out at a time and to create a name.
So the chief pulled out the first letter and said, "C, eh"
Then second letter, "N, eh"
And third letter, "D, eh"
And thats how the name was coined. :D

You are kind...:)
But to an extent I agree with Dirty when it comes to Canada being too cold. Shoveling wet snow of 30cm at 4:30 in the morning is no fun. Also when the temperature drops below -35 degree, you wish you quit the job and stay home or go back home to India.

.The name of Canada has been in use since the earliest European settlement in Canada, with the name originating from a First Nations word kanata (or canada) for "settlement", "village", or "land". Today, Canada is pronounced /ˈkænədə/ in English and /kanada/ or /kanadɑ/ in French. In Inuktitut, one of the official languages of the territory of Nunavut, the First Nations word (pronounced /kanata/) is used, with the Inuktitut syllabics ᑲᓇᑕ
