I am planning to buy a Sony Walkman (Model No: WMFX290). It is small enough to fit in shirt pocket, this cassette Walkman lets you tune into TV audio broadcasts or receive instant weather updates. The Mega Bass sound system makes your tunes sound great on tape or over the radio

Why? Isn't the AVLS system not up to mark?
I've heard that the new FM local/distant (DX) switch doesn't have the synchronization issue that previous models had + I prefer the elliptical MBSS (Mega Bass Sound Sys) button as opposed to the rectangular one in prev models....

But it... it is the best out there. I have a few of these myself, maybe their older version. But they rock. If it is a walkman, it has got to be Sony. Don't go for any other brand... they all suck. Only Sony rocks.

Why walkman?
Go for some branded music players...ipod is nice and handy. If you want some better quality then go for creative and all.
Some examples for cheap and tiny players

My entire music collection is in cassettes....plus sound clarity of tapes are much better than digital. It has been proved after exhaustive research. So I prefer tape player over digital.
Anyways, thanks for input.

Can you record on the model that you have shown? The ones I have, at least a couple of them can record also... real high quality recording... but then that may have to do with the quality of my voice itself. Don't know how your voice will turn out. But do make sure that it has a recording feature.

Good question.
No. It doesn't have recording. I have initiated an problem ticket with Sony regarding this. I would also like to have a walkman with optical inputs for Mic, MIDI or keyboard...

Music on players like iPod or any other MP3 players will never sound as good as tapes or CDs because it is compressed using MP3 alogorithm which is 'lossy'. If you buy a CD which is sampled at a minimum of 44.1Khz (correct me here with the figure) and has the entire spectrum of sound, then you will be surprised to know that CDs are better than old cassette tapes.
But you are right, the MP3 songs today are not necessarily all compressed using the same bit rate and hence cassettes usually sound better.
So go for a Walkman. Infact I still use a proper CD player in my car because I prefer music on CDs with complete audio spectrum.
As for the radio function, all these digital radio tuners dont really deliver unless you have a proper digital tuner and not a 'tuner on a chip' kind, which this Sony seems to be.
Anyway, for 35 bucks you are getting a good bang for your buck.

HarHarbhai ... stay with SONY ... you can never make a mistake ... not with SONY products ... years ahead of others. My garage is full of SONY ... still working like the day I bought them ... some TVs even after 23 years. How the hell do you throw away something which works like SONY?
I remember first I got was BETAMAX 1983 ... went to Mumbai (by train from Jummritalaiya) and bought meself hundreds of betamax tapes. 1985 came VHS ... went to Mumbai bought meself hundreds of VHS tapes. Came cds and dvds and now something else. What the f+uck do you do with these things? I want to buy new latest model but quite expensive $9700 corrolla motor but I don't. I know I can afford ... I even got down payment ready ... I don't buy cause where will I park my new expensive car ... garage is full of SONYS and BETAMAX tapes and VHS tapes and CDS and DVDS. I will not park such expensive car on the street ... you know how people are ... they get jealous.

HHMD,
Why do you want to go for such high-end technology right now? The portable DVD player technology is still maturing and it would take a few more years for the prices to come down. I'd suggest you go for the basic model in a more mature technology...Check this one out...Can watch movies anytime on TV (big screen)...A little bulky but kickass performance...

If you are looking for a portable music device, I'm expecting walkman prices to come down by the holiday season...You might want to wait...If you cannot wait that long, then I strongly recommend this...It's a tad bigger than what you're looking for but it's total bang for your buck...im really excited for you and looking forward to hearing bout ur final purchase:up:

BTW, the only walkman you can buy is a Sony. Walkman is a registered (copyrighted?) trademark of Sony - no one else can use that name.

HarHarbhai ... I am disappointed in you. You were planning to buy tiny DVD player and all-along fooled us in to thinking that you wanted to buy walkman. Why did you do this? You wasted my time and energy.
