These days most of the Airlines sale the tickets direct to travelers at the same price you get from Travel Agencies.;) Try direct. Atlest you will have lot less chances of getting "overbooked" or duplicate reservations.;)

:) Last year I started booking with Maxi's link Primetravels....but they are too busy and poor customer service...I wasted one week behind them then at last we booked from Makemytrip.com ....good deal and good customer service.

what amta sir says is true.. i got an excellent deal from emirates for parents from their website. I think i saved atleast 2-300 bucks from the kind of rates that travel agents were providing.

That is absolutely correct! I usually start by searching on a comparison website like expedia or orbitz or makemytrip. Then, based on the results go and buy directly from the website of the airline that offers the cheapest fare. Usually, the price offered directly by the airline is even cheaper than that offered by expedia or orbitz. If not, they may also match or beat the price if you call.

The biggest problem I see going direct on airline website is they dont cater to all starting location. I want to go from Cleveland to Bangalore.
Do you guys know any reliable travel agents

 this is the best procedure...i do the same
recently i got very good deal to Germany with Britishairways ...directly through there website...
www.britishairways.com
actually many airlines love to sell tickets directly in first hand..they prefer to avoid consolidators/travelagents etc....this way passanger and airline both happy........the only problem is date change/cancellation ... when you buy directly from airline..
as most of the time web fares are not refunadable:o

They have offices in Mumbai, India so you can get assistance about tickets from there too.

I have used 'Vita Travels' (can't find their website) and 'Bay Travels (baytravels@gmail.com)' from the bay area. They have both given me the lowest quote and very reliable service.

Hi Chando,
My sincere advice is don't go to single travel agent. Shop around and look in the websites ofcourse if you have time for your travel. If it is urgent travel you are booked in travel agent. They will charge very high... don't go to Bayarea travels
