Congress party working hard - Salaried to shell out more in tax

NEW DELHI: All income earners, including the salaried and the self-employed, will soon have to fork out more tax. The Centre has finally relented on the long-standing demand from states to enhance the ceiling for tax on professions from the current level of Rs 2,500 to Rs 7,500 per year.

The tax on professions, trades, callings and employments, is a tax that the Constitution assigns to state governments/local bodies. In eight states, the state government itself collects the tax while in several others with active panchayats, the local bodies levy and collect the tax. Article 276 puts the ceiling on the tax at Rs 2,500.

The Constitution has been amended in the past to raise the tax level to bring it to the present level. Many states have been demanding that the Article should be amended again to hike the tax level to Rs 7,500 a year.

Maharshtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, levy this tax on an annual basis. An increase in the ceiling is expected to substantially help these states in overcoming their revenue constraints.

A proposal in this regard is likely to be taken up by the cabinet soon. The present level of Rs 2,500 was fixed in 1988 though the 60th amendment. This time, the Centre wants to carry out another amendment though which it wants to retain the executive power to enhance the ceiling as and when required without having to go to Parliament for the same.

The amount paid to a local body/state government as tax on professions, etc is eligible for deduction from income while computing income tax payable to the central government. Therefore, a hike in the tax level could adversely impact personal income tax collections. States collect close of about Rs 3,000 crore by way of professional tax.

But, States feel that since the economy is booming and income tax collections are also on rise, this move would not have much impact. Earlier, when the proposal was mooted, centre had showed willingness to raise it to Rs 5,000 only. States want the additional revenues for meeting expenditure for creation of social infrastructure, including primary schools and hospitals.

Obviously, the working class deserves it! they are apathetic and do not care to vote while you see masses (the poor) exercising their vote. so parties like congress will make them their voter base. While parties like BJP, which are pro-capitalistic and middle-class based, suffer because of this larthargic working/salaried class. so let these salaried class enjoy the fruits of their labour (or non-labour)!

I agree fully with U Ram pai, but to add further, tha apathy U have described here is not just this only, Yaar, jab govt. ne Service tax shuru kiya tha tab yeh 2% tha aur sirf kuch services par tha (shayad 9-10, correct me if Im wrong) but dheerey dheerey, ye pahuunch gaya 12.50% par aur ab to ye 800-900 services tak bhi pahunch jayega aur ab iska kuch kiya nahi ja sakta, to mere kehne ka matlab hai ki jab ise shuru kiya tha tab hum kyu gandmaro ki tarah chup chap bathey rahe. Kyu nahi is country me dharam ko chhodd kar logo ki baat kari jati hai, yaha log hujum ke hujum Kawad lene pahunch jayenge lekin agar kisi ko kaha jaye ki country ke liye apne liye kuch karna hai , mahiney ke 2 din nikalne hai to sab ki fat jaati hai:vomit: . Hum log woh hi bhugat rahe hai jiske hum haktdaar hai , let the Govt Screw us in any manner they want.

Aur jaha tak yeh Kangressiyoo ka sawwal hai wo din bhi door nahi jab yeh log Prostitutes se bhi service tax lenge. Aur agar koi rape ke iljam me pakda gaya aur doshi paya gaya aur us par court ne 1 lakh ka jurmana laga diya (for an example) to bhi us bande ko 1,12,500/- INR dene padenge with Service tax:vomit:

What has chidamburam done? Its the commies in the alliance and the other kangressi madarch*ds who are behind this. :vomit::down:

This tax is one of the ways to increase revenues for various state govts. to stop themselves from collapsing because of the 6th pay commission that has now been constituted. When the last pay commission was implemented, bugdet portion for salaries and benefits of all state govts. shot up by 99% and most govts. were nearly unable to fulfill it and have only recently started recovering. :(

Now, the commies have pressurised the govt. for this new pay commission and so the states need some increased revenue to pay their employees. So, as usual the ugly commies are back at their business of ruining the nation.

And the Indians who have voted deserve this for electing such fractured parliament and those who havent voted it deserve this treatment even more aptly!:smash::mad:
