Har baar yun lagta hai ki bas...ab chale chalo apne des wapas...paisa to haath mein rukta hai nahin, to savings na jaane kab hogi.

Phir yun lagta hai ki ab yahan ki aadat ho gayi hai to wapas des mein kaise lagega...to bus kadam ruk jaate hain.

yes, it gets extremely difficult to return with each passing day - although one might not realize it when staying in the US. Come and stay in India for 3-6 months and it will start hitting you.

Having said that, returning is possible but only for retirement. I don't think our asses (and big egos) will be able to work in India on Indian salaries in Indian working conditions.

Also, you cannot retire if you are in your 20s or 30s or even early 40s as you will get bored to death sitting at home in India.

After 45-50, yes, maybe you can retire and do some simple job in India for timepass (as your career aspirations should be dead by then and more importantly society will not pain you a lot as you are now in the coluntary retirement age).

So you can come with your US savings and live a comfortable life. However, practically this is going to be difficult as by that time your ass will be so used to USA, that you will crib about any and everything here.

How much money required to retire in India? At least a million $. Five million should be great.

Ideally, you should start purchasing land, flats in the place where you want to stay in India. Also purchase house in the US and bank on its value shooting up in 10-20 years (which is a reasonable assumption especially if you live in the bay area). Then sell it off and that plus your 401k and under-the-matrress savings will be your ticket to retirement heaven.
