US history lessons irk Hindus
I don’t understand what’s the furore here all about among the Indian Parents of School going kids in California. Demanding changes in the school social studies syllabus on the grounds that they have a negative depiction of Hinduism.
Caste system, unequal rights to women, polytheism were prevalent in India & are in fact even today. What’s wrong in accepting the facts? Why falsify these truths? These surely would be viewed as double standards.
US history lessons irk Hindus (http://www.ndtv.com/morenews/showmorestory.asp?category=National&slug=US+history+lessons+irk+Hindus&id=85474)
Monday, March 6, 2006 (California):
The revision of social studies textbooks in schools has created a big controversy in California. Hindu groups have objected to the negative references to Hinduism such as the caste system and the oppression of women. They have demanded changes in the syllabus as this kind of portrayal damage the self-esteem of their children.
"I come from a low caste background and I want my son to be aware of the hardships my father and I faced in reaching where we are,” said Thillai Kumaran, whose son Arivan is a grade six student.
The grade six course requires students to study ancient civilizations, including the origins of Hinduism. "I do not want my child or any other Hindu child to come home crying or embarrassed because his classmates ridicule his religious beliefs," said a Hindu parent.
Routine exercise
California revises its social studies textbooks every six years. During the current revision groups like the Hindu Education Foundation and the Vedic Foundation demanded 153 changes in the syllabus.
"Learning about Hinduism in 6th grade left me feeling ashamed and angry because all that was taught was the caste system, polytheism and Sati," said Samira Mukarala, Vedic Foundation.
Is it Hindutva?
However, Indian groups and renowned Indologists have denounced these proposed changes as Hindutva propaganda. They accused the Hindu groups of trying to fabricate history and promote right-wing agendas.
"This is the political agenda that the RSS groups. We know that the act of changing textbooks led to immense communal strife in India and by propagating that in California they are really trying to get a fill up to their projects in India," said Shalini Gera, Coalition Against Communalism.
Who’ll win?
The State education board will make a decision on March 8, but has warned that neither side will be completely satisfied.
"History and social science is a difficult area because it is not just an academic content area but an issue that reflects how people view themselves and so tends to get more emotional," said Glee Johnson, President, State Board of Education.
But Hindus who support the changes say that they are simply trying to protect young children.

The problem is something like what I read in a book on world geography... I will try to reproduce what I read, as much as I can...
Jewism - God's religion
Christianity - God gave this religion to mankind through his son Jesus.
Islam - Muslims believe that God gave this religion to mankind through the best man in the world
Buddhism - Most of China/Japan and south-east Asia are buddhists
Hinduism - Caste-based religion that believes in idols of devils as gods and hindus kill their daughters.
Notice anything wrong, Cooldu pai. And this in a world geography book in the kids' section in a local library.

How about we say that you come from a family of child molestors based on the fact that you dont like to worship idols?? Any logic to this? No.. we just believe it and we print it in books. Will you like it??? Kyon.. Gand mein daard ho ga na??
You conveniently forget that Christianity has had its share of evil like the crusades. Islam has and still has its violent death cult mentality. Hayn??
Ask the same Liberal fagg$ots in California to write something negative about Islam and they will fucking run with their tails up their asses!
If you want to write about castes in Hinduism then write about how Muslims pillage and plunder and treat women like animals.
Equality in reporting facts, you see!!

Let me put it this way...if you identify that you are Hindu you declare yourself a "slave":D
This is because the word Hindu has nothing to do with religion. It is a label given to people of Indian sub-continent by former aggressors Iranians (and followed by Arabs/Turks):D
The reason world tramples a "Hindu" is because not all "Hindus" agree to the origin of their religion and religious practices. If two Hindus cannot agree to the origin of their religion how do you expect a non-Hindu to recognize "Hinduism" as a legit religion??
I think of all those who have pride of being a "Hindu" subconsciously enslaved:D

Cha Pai, I don’t think the education system in the US is so immature to print something of the sort you are mentioning. The news article above mentions about children being taught the origins of Hinduism, caste system, polytheism, unequal rights for women including practice of Sati in some parts of India. These practices were rife in India before and some are even today. What's wrong with printing them on school textbooks?
One cannot ridicule these facts or shy away from them. I see nothing wrong with children being taught fact rather than concocted fiction, which apparently certain Indians are trying for under various pretexts.

Isn't polytheism an integral part of Hindu Mythology, We in India have too many gods and Goddesses; eventually it is claimed that Bramha Created this world, but very few actually pray to Him!!!
Rather there are hardly 2-3 temples for the Bramha(creator of this world) but as oppose to this there are N number of temples for so many others.
32 Crore: to many Gods and Goddesses

Dear Cool-dude,
The plot is definitely more sinister and diabolic than you think.
The wrong things written about Hinduism in Californian text books is corrupting the young minds of Indian origin.
If you are refering to the article in LA times few days back then you must have read that one mother has complained that her son, a born Hindu, has come back home and told his mother that he does not want to be a Hindu.
This is the target group and they have hit the bulls eye.
I have seen the conversion of tribals of Orissa by Catholic priest. That was by coersion and bribing the poor people. This is yet another way to convert a different class of people who are in their tender age of not knowing how to sift chaff from the wheat.
I totally agree with Sutradhar when he says that if these guys try similar thing with Islam and they will not be alive the second day to see the effect of their writing.

CoolDude,
Did you read the report in newspapers here. Go to www.sanjosemercurynews.com (http://www.sanjosemercurynews.com) and look at the reports from a couple of days ago. The fagg$ots from Stanford and other self proclaimed historians say that what is written is corrrect. A teacher of Hindu origin has clearly stated that the way Hinduism is portrayed is very negative.
At the same time there are only praises for Islam in the same text book! What the fuck!!!
Do you know that California has the worst schools. Any kid from an Indian school can beat a student a grade higher from California. On top of it they want to fuck up Hinduism in textbooks here.
Come on.. this is what happens when Hindus allow anything and everything and let Liberal perverts run educational institues. And by the way most professors in universities like Berkely and other institutions here are the 60s hippie remnants who are all about perversion, whacked out against the nation. These hypocrites will not say a word about Islam but will find ways to hurt Hindus.
THen there was this letter writer in the same newspaper who was a lower caste from India. She was so happy to show Hinduism in a negative light. Where is sense of pride for the home nation? Where is sense of protecting whatever is Indian? All religions and countries have flaws, but why let others make a mockery of it?
Anyway, I know its a losing battle and we Hindus are thankfully not terrorists and fascists.

Dear Cha pai....you are already half Gurjar by marrying Mrs. Cha pai...now why don't you relocate to Vadodara (the most progressive city in Gurjar-rashtra aka Gujarat) and that will be the end of all your troubles.
I am sure my friend Narendra Modi will be pleased to have you in Gujarat and can find funds to pay for your relocation. In that way, you can help make Mahisagar Valley region a new Silicon Valley of India...Mahisagar Valley region already has superb transportation infrastructure and industrial infrastructure in place.
No smilies in this one as I think cha pai has potential to uplift Gujarat.
In Maharashtra, no body will give a hoot to cha pai anyway:D

I know many of these historians would think twice before they write or portray anything negative about Islam. But however I don’t quite agree with this extremist approach by certain Hindus towards such matters. I know the whole world particularly the west view Islam as highly intolerant faith that can easily be inflamed by the slightest of negative portrayal of the religion or instigation.
Just because majority of Muslims behave like this, do hindus too necessarily have to follow suit? Aren’t we different, more cultured & tolerant than them?
With more such dogmatism shown during such instances, we too are earning the same tag as the Muslims, which isn’t right. I certainly wouldn’t like the world to see Hinduism in the same manner, Islam is perceived today.

Dear Cool-dude,
Your fears are completely wrong founded.
No Hindu has ever taken out a Fatwaa to kill some one or burnt properties all over the world because wrong things are written about Hinduism. They have not gone beyond some protest when a Muslim bastard has depicted Hindu deities in nude positions. As against this the Muslims all over the world have shown complete intolerence towards one and all who have , in a remotest sense, blasphemed Islam. Take the case of Tasleema Nasareen. For saying what has happened in her life she has been outcast by Islam and made a persona non grata. Salman Rushdie is another case.
The whole world is not as uneducated not to be able to make distinction.

I concur, its in the pahlavi dialect that the word 'Hindu' means Slave or ugly looking. Its really a derogatory word. My dad told me once that we should call ourselves what Swami Vivekanand told, we should call ourselves as 'Vedic' ppl not Hindus.
