Three killed in riots as Bush hails new partner India
Fri Mar 3, 1:18 PM ET
Just hours before Bush began his address, police reported rioting in the northern city of Lucknow that saw three people killed, dozens injured, cars, shops and vehicles torched and shops looted.
The rioting had been sparked when Muslims staged anti-Bush protests after Friday prayers, said Lucknow police chief Ashutoch Pandey.
"Muslims after offering prayers went around ordering shops to down their shutters to protest President Bush's visit to India which sparked off the clashes because the Hindus objected," said Pandey.
Police in the city, capital of Uttar Pradesh state, used teargas and truncheons to break up the clashes, he added.
"Two of those killed are Hindus and one is a Muslim," said local government official Ghulam Abbas.
Seventeen others had been admitted to hospital with injuries, he added.
Protests by Muslims also turned violent in the southern city of Hyderabad during a four-hour visit by Bush to the hi-tech hub, police said.
Five people were injured in clashes between riot police and protestors, who were kept well away from the visiting president, they said.
In Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir, some 35 people were hurt in clashes between police and Muslims protesting Bush's three-day visit to India as well as the publication of Danish caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

Politics aside and Bush bashing or praising aside, I would like to draw your attention to the following exceprts from this 'opinion' piece which surely will make you think too!
I hope you will give a fair judgement.
Effing jerk! Liar! Deranged cowboy! Mass murderer! There simply is no denying that for most people on this planet, Bush bashing can be an entirely satisfying hobby.
Having got my jollies, now to the business of the day: I really do believe time has come for us to simply ignore the man, and waste no further bad breath over him. Because the truth is Dubya and his country have become totally irrelevant to our nation’s growth and prosperity, we don’t need the Yanks anymore... on the contrary, it’s THEY who need us.
Which is why I cannot understand why we so energetically went down on this insane man, I suppose old subservient habits die hard with our fossilized netas. Hullo dudes, wake up and smell the coffee, the world has flipped on its head, the US no longer matters in our scheme of things.
No, we don’t need their okay on our nuclear plans, we already have and will continue to build our line of desi nukes (it’s a different matter, of course, that we are very poor at constructing roads, another one of those horrible ironies called India), and there’s very little the world and its Bapu can do about it.
As for commerce, it is WE who are taking away their jobs, it is we who are making money out of their land, it is our talented people and booming markets they need, not vice versa.
How did so many jobs land in India, especially in tech sector and call centers?
US faced a recession, which is a normal economic process which happens in every nation.
Do we really not need US for our booming growth?
I think Narayan Murthy (Infosys), Azim Premji (Wipro), Shiv Nadar (HCL) and many other people who matter will have a different opinion.
Bush bashing and hating US foreign policies in Middle East is one thing and writing any drivel for sake of bashing Bush is another. I repsect your opinions on Bush - however contrary to mine - as you have a right to say what you want. The reason I respect your opinion over those who burn and riot are that you are saying it, protesting it, expressing anger in a CIVIL fashion. :p

Looking at some old threads, I feel you are not atheist but you do believe in Babasaheb Ambedkar. Most likely you do follow Buddhist teachings as did Ambedkar.
Its all fine. I will say, since you have always argued in a civil fashion with me, that you have a right to not believe in GOD and follow your beliefs. However, how come you expect us to accept such drivel about our beliefs? :confused: :p

Charchu,
Believing in Ambedkar or Gandhi or even Nathuram Godse or soemone else doesn't make a person believe in GOD or some particular religion, may it be Hinduism/Christianity/Muslim or any other;
I even Like Martin Luther King but that doesn't make me African American.
It is really a personal choice to believe in some concepts of Persons or Religion;
I even Like lot of Hindu concepts(like Ahimsa and not hurting others) but in totality I am not a believer in GOD;
Ideas or concepts May be....
Every Human being needs some principals and concepts to carry on the beliefs and life for that sake.

Bikini, lage raho... you have my full support :D just as long as you raise reasonable doubts... :up:
Ramship pai, you cannot bring down anybody just 'cos their opinion differs... even if he/she is a poop :) Just try to answer his queries logically and if not logically, reasonably. Cha pai, :up: on your comment. But you cannot just drown out his argument as drivel (well, just maybe his CD comment :D)
In this Bush incident, the poops of India do have a right to raise banners against his trip (though why they are doing it, I cannot fathom) just like other people, whatever the bhagavad gita may say about guests and all. If they want to, let them... but they cannot shatter the peace around them :mad:

well, i aint against him, i got pissed off at his statement which uses hinduism or gita to justify POOPies (People of Peace) action which is to kill people of other religions. read his statement here again:

so by his statement, he is now blaming hinduism for the actions of POOPies! how much more insane can it get. first, POOPies kill hindus for disagreeing with them and then we have BKN here who says it was Hinduism itself that incited these murderers! :mad:
if u think my reply was in bad taste and still think it is so after this explaination, then i cant help you! and i still stand by my statement that he was pooping here!

The statement from the Bhagavad Gita (and for that matter any principle of hinduism) is not limited to hinduism itself. Hinduism is a way of life, and any human being on earth can live it, irrespective of his religion. This specific statement says that the dharma of a human being is above everything, including his own family. Similarly for a person of peace, his religion is above everything, including country and family. I do not see a difference here.
And specific to the thread, the POOPs of India think that India is wrong by welcoming Bush to India... and they think it is their dharma right to protest it... and kill everyone who comes in their way. So, 3 cheers to them :D
Now when will the hindus of India wake up and follow their dharma, and do what is right :confused:

I an just laughing at your imaginations :) :)
Where did U get the idea that I was blaiming Hinduism for the riot,
I don;t think there is HINDUISM's copywrite on GITA, any one can use the useful statement from GITA if it inspires them.
U could only think if coming out of the blame to other religions thinking,
By the way nor Atithi Devo Bhavo statment and Dharma Ki Raksha statement were pointed to any blame for any religion.

BKN bhai, there is a limit to what you can express here and unfortunately you have made claims that makes me feel that you are some knowledgeable person to interpret what Krishna did and which cast He belongs to?
I personally would edit and delete such statements and urge other mods to take heed to what BS you are propagating here ... which means sooner or later, we may be compelled to ban you from echarcha ...
Please provide reasonable arguments in favour or in opposition to whatever claims you make here ... In particular if that claim is on some religion or some belief, I would advise *you* to exercise restraint and some level-headedness ...

BKN,
Here are my suggestions and I am sure other mods will agree with me:
In case of religions, when some personal thoughts or opinions are expressed, I usually prefer (and even from the literary perspective) to have a corresponding verse and its interpretation from *bonafide* sources (which include not the heads of state or some famous temples or mosques) being cited in support or in favour of what you are debating ...
Please dont claim *yours* or some *layman's* interpretation as something that would support your argument for in that case popular belief or understanding is not necessarily the true interpretation ...
So, it is my sincere request to you to stop pestering us with your wild and rampant thoughts about some Spiritual Personality to whom you claim to understand as a material being ...
Sometimes actions of some persons even in the material frame are misinterpreted as something else by layman's like us, leave aside the spiritual meaning or the spiritual message that ESTEEMED PERSONALITY would like to get across ...
This is my final request. You can take it as a warning too ...
