Many times you dont get the person you called, but you get a pre-recorded greeting message.

Some are simple where the automated message says - Your call has been forwarded to an automated voice message system. <name of party> is not available. Leave a message at the tone. After finishing recording you can hang up or press pound for more options.

Fair enough. I know that the person is not there and I am dropping a message. The preson will hear it and call me back. Thats it.

But some messages are personalised and they go on and on like "We are not here. We are either on the phone on another line or away from the office" <-- Yes you moron.. I am getting this greeting because you are NOT there to receive my call. I get it.

Then some go on - "Please leave a detailed message and your phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.."

Yeah right, I am going to leave you my social security number and not my telephone. I am not going to leave a message about why I called but sing a song which I heard on Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma Pa or American Idol.

The best message I have heard till date was - "Namaskaar, you know what to do after the beep!"

Care to share your experiences??

Yaar in the office you cannot record wisecrack Voice Mail greetings.. For Propriety's sake, you have to follow the traditional trend..

I Agree. For home Voice mails, it is really irritating...

Office world though, they sometimes give out a format for recording of voice mails. Which employees need to follow. No choice...
Theres some lengthy crap we have to record on our VM's where i work.

Here's a tip, if Audix is the VM manager- usually as soon as the VM starts if you press # couple of times, the message gets skipped and you reach the beep part.

We have a choice - just say our name and it gets inserted in the voice mail spoken out by the system at the appropriate place or record your own.

I just say - "This is Sunit Katkar. Leave me a message." Ends faster that the system message.

Does the same tip work with A+ Voice systems or Voice Guide or Show N Tel VM Systems ? Just wondering.

Here's one from me. :p

You have reached XXX-XXX-XXXX this is John Doe. I am either away from my desk or on the phone or in a company meeting. Please leave your full name, phone number with area code and a detailed message and I will surely get back to you as soon as possible. If you have an emergency, please contact the Helpdesk at 1800 blah blah. Thank you and have a nice ****** day.

Now after hearing such a long message, the caller would be ready to hang up.

My house phone answers "We are not home, say what you got to say." :D

The most pompous messages I have heard on home phone voice message go like

"You have reached the answering message system of La Di Da... Please leave .... "

Yeah.. moron.. I dont even know what an answering machine is.. Yeah, I am under the impression that my call has been picked up by your refrigerator and not your answering machine.

Reading all these posts, I guess I will have to go home and change my voicemail. I have a detailed one, with me starting and then my kids picking up and then well-rounded up by my wife, running into a total of 4 minutes, before it beeps for a message :D

I have the same exact msg as Khurch pai. 'This is Yeda, pls leave a message.'

Previously I used to work for this dikk company located somewhere in the wilderness of Alabama where no phone used to work. I had a msg which went 'I am at work right now. My phone wont work here. Call me after 5 if it's not an emergency. If it's an emergency you can call me at my office number which is xxx-xxx-xxxx.' After a while, ppl stopped calling me even after 5. :D

I would love to leave a message like this for telemarketers -
"Why the fuck are you waiting to leave me a message? Most likely I am not interested in your call. So just fuck off."

Yes I remember that line!! :D Actually the movie was quite funny! I guess most of the audience did not get the hip humour and hence it tanked.

Have you ever heard any voice message created in Indian language? I knew such two people. One was in Tamil and other one was by Maharashtrian family. I don't remember exact words because this is 5 years back and now I am not in touch with them. They started by saying ....Namaste...then message in Hindi telling leave message and the most funny part was they ended it by saying -- Jai Hind ....Jai Maharashtra..... Absolutely patriotic message. :)

After all just quick beep matters and such messages just create entertainment.
