Check out this. I feel its just wrong and inhumane to do such thing. No one has rights to terminate a life.

US in exotic animal hunting row
A row has broken out in Texas over ranches that are breeding exotic animals such as antelope and zebra to be hunted.
Some farmers have stopped raising cattle to breed animals for ''trophy kill' safaris. James Westhead reports from Texas.
Mods or echa pai, pl make this poll public.

Aren't animals bred for meat consumption too ? If this is wrong and Inhumane, so is breeding Animals who are later slaughtered for meat...
something to think about...

Breeding for meat consumption sounds convincing for me.. but not as a sport... we have better options to feed our sporting spirits. :)

Why double standards? Muslims breed goats and then slowly (hallal) kills them. If that is not inhuman then killing them for fun is?

its more of a personal preference... better is relative to individual tastes and preferences. Some prefer meat and some don't. But either way whether you eat animals or not, hunting them down for just fun does not make sense to me ...

Not just fun - practice. If there ever comes a time that your survival depends on you hunting your own food, you want to have enough practice. Besaides, we use animals for all kinds of stuff - shoes, purses, fur coats, glue, food, drugs etc. Not to mention medicinal testing, lab tests, pets for our own enjoyment (yes - IMO, having a pet also constitutes cruelty) and other stuff.
There is no 2 ways - either animals have the exact same right as humans or they dont. If they dont, all the above is ethical. If they do, then we can have a much longer discussion.

So if we go by your logic, what's wrong if some people prefer hunting?
I mean if eating meat is a personal preference so is breeding animals for game...

Ok... for a minute think that you are a Deer . Now try to think how you want to die... with just one stroke for some one else's survival / preference or by a hunter who chases you down for just fun ...
Anywez animals will not know the difference but we humans do.
Now you would say I know the difference but I dont care because either way the animal has to die. I would call this to be your THINKING PREFERENCE and not mine. I don't wish to enforce my thinking on anyone, niether I think that everyone will think alike.
Its just a about a question asked on hunting and my views on it. :)

Dude! My question was meant to be a Moral conundrum.. I mean how can you justify one and not the other by calling it a "thinking preference"? Just look at the hypocrisy of your argument...
But I digress... All I wanted to lay out there was that we are quick to condemn something while we ourselves are a very active participant in it's spread...

When animals bred for table purposes, they are usually grown in extremely compact,in fact cramped.spaces, and are then slaughtered.
Those that are bred for hunting,on the other hand, must be getting to move around to develop the suppleness and speed that would make the 'hunt' that much more adventurous!
This should make their 'lives' that much more bearable.
Look,I'm merely counting their blessings!
Both of them face the same sorry fate, only thing is the 'hunted' get killed by an 'outsider'(in the west, even cows are killed with bullets bet.their eyes!) instead of by the 'breeder'.
In fact, if 'hunters' accept such 'ranch bred game' as the real thing,it will reduce enormously the 'pressure' on the stressed out wild-life.
A few months ago I had suggested the use of cloning in breeding tigers, rhinos etc..,and then releasing them in well cordonned-off jungles for 'hunting purposes',and then selling their organs to the 'medecine wallahs'to save the real wild ones whose numbers are fast dwindling due to poiaching,on this very forum.
Lets face it,cows are holy goddesses for the Hindus but that has not saved them from the Muslims,Christians,Trtibals etc..

I think the important thing to realize here is that they would be 'created' to be killed. That would be their pre-decided destiny. They don't really get an option to be lucky to survive, they were brought to the world to be killed....so that would be pretty sad....I dunno if this is a real scene or not though. I am sure PETA would be all over under and inside it then :D

Ration pai, you changed my thinking... now, how do I change my vote:confused:
Dawi pai, even animals bred for meat are created to be killed. So, what's the difference? Atleast animals on a hunting ground get the freedom to move around... marna to sabi ko hai.

Absolutely !
Whatever gives any satisfaction or a sense of accomplishment and adds to one's health wealth peace of mind or happiness is always ok to do for the doer ELSE the doer wouldn't have been doing it at first if he / she had felt it wasn't ok for whatever reasons. Those who feel it's ok to do are doing it , those who feel it's not ok to do are not doing it , those who want to do it but for lack of means are unable to do it are not doing it and those who dont find it ok to do but cant do anything to stop it are ranting because thats what they want to do - rant , criticise , complain , raise debates .
On a side note Mr Poster is it ok to hunt those animals which have not been breeded for hunting purpose ?
As for my view - as long as something doesnt affects me in any way adversely is always perfectly ok to do , 9/11 , demolition of babri masjid , riots in Godhra , demolition of buddha statues in afganistan et al for instance.
Please ask me some more questions because today I am in one of those moods that - The most frustating thing in life is when you know the answers but nobody is asking you the questions.

What is this Rajiv Bahtia stuff?
Anyway, as to the question of this thread -
Many hunters go into jungles and kill wild animals. This is not good as there needs to be a balance in the ecosystem. Offcourse when a area is over populated with one particular type of animal and it causes problems to humans and in general, then killing some of them is fine.
Anyway, if these hunters just want to hunt and get their jollies then its better to let them breed for sake of hunting. This will spare the animals in the wild.

sane pai per ur arguement that animals are bred for hunting also, it doesn't justify breeding animals for hunt....point being killing for sport and killing for survival is difft.....if terrorists are to murder someone, doesn't mean letting those ppl enjoy life for some time and then killing them is right either....ur making them live happy moments and in complete illusion that this is their life and suddenly bang bang dishkiyaaaon

But cha pai what does “in the wild” mean. They are all roaming the same earth. We put up few fences around some and could not around others. How does a zebra in African forest become different than one inside a Texan farm?
I am a person with really practical attitude. If your life is in danger and the danger is from any human or animals then killing it would be justifiable (well unless you are a murder whose life is in danger from police :D so pl take what I say with right perspective). It’s cruel to even abuse life let alone kill it like in this case here where animals are killed for pleasure.
Let me ask you and all echarchans ask here - will you hunt human beings for fun? Forget that it’s against the law. Just tell me what does your conscious say about it? Would you kill humans who pose no danger to you of any kind? Would you have fun that way?
Most of us won’t. Now this is where my mind always flips – the double standard! How does killing a helpless animal for fun or pleasure become justifiable? Especially when they pose no danger to you of any kind. Does not matter if you created them or not. Would killing your kid become ethical just because you gave life to him? Would killing a human be perfectly normal for you just because she is weaker than you? I don’t think so. No damn way!
As I said I am a person with really practical attitude. So I do acknowledge humans need to take few steps which may cause death a to living beings, animals or humans or any kind. It may be using them for testing new drugs or such reasons. But eating animals to survive is not one of such reasons as we do have other better options to feed our hunger.
I have always lived in democratic countries. India (supposedly democracy) and USA. If you think at abstract level law and rights are nothing but what majority of people think is ethically right. For a second check where your ethics stand. Are your ethics below most or they stand higher. Animals do have some rights in US do not have some which I think they should (nahi yaar voting rights is not one of them :D). But I would like to proudly feel that my ethics stand higher. I believe this kind of killing for pleasure is CRUEL, INSANE, INHUMANE AND UNETHICAL. Does not matter if your nurtured it or just found it.

So Cha pai, does it mean that if that particular type of animal is human species, and they over populate an area and cause problems to humans and in general, then killing some of them is fine? Thanks for the license, Cha pai :D
sane pai per ur arguement that animals are bred for hunting also, it doesn't justify breeding animals for hunt....point being killing for sport and killing for survival is difft.....if terrorists are to murder someone, doesn't mean letting those ppl enjoy life for some time and then killing them is right either....ur making them live happy moments and in complete illusion that this is their life and suddenly bang bang dishkiyaaaon
Dawi pai, death surpasses all, once you die... you die... finito... end of story... as you say bang bang dishkiyaaaon. But when you live, you got to look at quality of life. Humans breed animals for food, nobody (except for a few humane conscious people) seems to have a problem with that. Most of these animals cannot be said to have a high quality of life, cramped spaces, no freedom and then the slaughter house. If instead of such a life, these same animals are given the freedom to roam around (this concept has taken ground and such meat is called organic or farm-grown meat), at least they can live life fully till death. And once you die... you die... finito... end of story... bang bang dishkiyaaaon... death surpasses all :)
...
Tapvi pai, read my reply to Dawi pai. And note, I am talking from the animals point of view, not humans' :) How humans stuggle with their consciousness is an individual matter and we all have enough thinking matter to make the right decision. Personally I do not eat meat, but if such a time comes that I do have to, then I would prefer to kill my own meat and eat it. Hunting for pleasure and sport is, you can say, a weak human trait. It is for the inferior human being, who feels superior by killing a defenceless inferior being.
And how do you check ethics? Is there a standard written somewhere against which you can compare? Some instrument for measuring?

i guess you need see what you tend to do when you find yourself presented by temptation to do something thats not illegal but could still cause harm to others If you stand higher you would escape such temptations successfully else you would fall prey to it. (totally speaking in context to this thread but not able to think of any other way right now. you got me here.) eg in my case i think using animals for drugs testing (as humanely as possible) is fine where if you say its wrong you stand higher.

Bhai you becamse very serious.
See, these hunters want to kill animals as sport. Well, they will continue it in the wild forests and jungles. So if they breed animals for sak eof hunting then atleast the animals free in the jungles and forests will be spared.
Hope I made my point clear. I dont like that idea at all but then its a better compromise than letting all wild animals be hunted.
