Iraq is a muslim country but it used to vote against Pakistan on Kashmir issue before Gulf war and was quite friendly to India.

Politics knows no religion, it only cares for self-interest. Any politician who is claiming to be orthodox is a moron or is making a fool out of people.

I would rationally think that Iran would be officially neutral but try to take advantage of this situation by sending arms to Ahmed Shah Masood to reclaim lost lands to Taliban. In that way, it would try to help its Shia populace in Afghanistan and benefit us.

No need to go into historoy. Present situation dictates Iran will stay neutral but India'll get the diplomatic support. Iranians have no lost love for sunni dominated pakistan and India's one of their big trading partner. If the Indo-Iran gas pipeline comes through, there's no way Iran will jeopardise that deal but that ofcourse if a different matter and demands detailed discussion in itself.

So since war is inevitable it's better that India strikes good diplomatic relationships with Iran as soon as possible and strikes at the heart of the evil Pakistanis even before they know!
