Lata may perform in Pakistan

NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar will hold three concerts in Pakistan early next year, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Pakistani daily Dawn quoting organisers of the event said Lata will perform in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. The formalities of the concert will be finalised after Lata returns from Europe, where she is on a vacation, the newspaper quoted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) marketing director Zahid Bashir as saying from Lahore.

This will be Lata's maiden stage appearance in Pakistan. The newspaper said the schedule was expected to be announced in the next 15 days. The earnings from the concert will go to the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Dawn quoted Bashir as saying that the response to the idea of the concert had been encouraging. "I have a $4 million television rights offer for the live coverage of Lata's concerts. I am expecting to sell the title sponsorship at Rs 20 million while the earnings from the gate will be around Rs 150 million," Bashir was quoted as saying.

The newspaper said Zahid had held discussions with top government officials, who had agreed in principle to give Lata state guest protocol.

The newspaper quoted Zahid as saying that Lata wanted to perform in September last year to pay her tribute to melody queen late Noor Jehan, but things didn't work out then.

Another Indian pop singer Lucky Ali is scheduled to perform in Karachi on July 8, the newspaper said.

LONDON: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar on Thursday denied reports in Pakistani media that she would perform in music concerts to raise funds for the Pakistan Cricket Board.

"It's kite flying. What have I got to do with (Pakistan) cricket. My hands are already full in India. I have no plans to perform in Pakistan," she said when asked to comment on the Pakistani media report.

She said that she had declined once to perform in a concert in Pakistan in memory of late singer Noor Jehan. (PTI)

Khopdi will be my replacement - Lata
LONDON: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar on Thursday accepted that she had plans for performing in music concerts to raise funds for the Pakistan Cricket Board. However, because of unforseen circumstances she claims that it will no longer be possible for her to keep up with her commitment. But accepting moral responsibilty, she has promised to arrange for a replacement, who will provide equal if not more entertainment to fun starved population of Pakistan, in the form of Khopdi.

Khopdi, as we all know, hit the small screen in 80s, but since then has been maitaining a low profile. Rumors have it, that after the short stint as an actor, he has experimented with many other career options. A brief history of his colorful career paths has been given below :
-Cabaret and belly dancing : The owners had to close the club and assume false identities in order to avoid getting killed at the hands of the customers. He lost this job.

-Camel masseur : Had to leave the job without a formal resignation and leave Arabia in a hurry, when the Sheikhs discovered that the camels assigned to him were roaming in the streets in a highly inebriated state and giggling uncontrollably. Shoot at sight orders are still active in Arabia for khopdi.

-Waiter in a chinese restaurant : Costumers objected to the way he scratched his crotch while taking orders. Liquor in the bar suddenly started disappearing. He was asked to leave.

Currently he is working as a partime poster at eCharcha.com. Naturally, Khopdi was unavailable for comments.

Yaar Indianji, kaun nahin peeta hai aajkal... sab bewde hain, main bhi. Bas, baat yeh hai ki hamari zindagi mein daru hi pehle aata hai, Lata Mangeshkarji nahin. Forget the fact that she has denied singing in Pakistan.

Who's this Godfather, Netraji ?? Strange, but Lata Mangeshkar is about 239 years old, hard to believe she a godfather. Unless, of course, it is good old Balasaheb Gotaram Girpade Gundagiri Thackeray !!
