Born in a maharashtrian family you automatically love non veg especially fish
a mumbaikar has sea food atleast 6 times a week[out of 14 meals]
the rest of the days may be reserved for chicken / mutton and some days may be non non-veg eating days like vinayak chathurti . I dont suppose all those indians settled outside india may be keeping with such "orthdox" practices.[actually i do not eat on such days but not because i belive in such practice but only because it helps to have intake of some greens once in a while which is definitely good for health]Its like you can have surmayee one day and halwa the other tisreya[clamps??] crabs the other shrimps is also there and of course there is dry bombils[bombay ducks] lobsters2 and ofcourse you can have some river fish 2 like rohu if u like. The list is simply endless. And all this can be cooked in many differnt ways 2

Chirag, my husband doesn't eat non-veg on Mondays and Thursdays. I stopped eating non-veg a few years ago but when I was eating it, I didn't care about the day. Basically, I was never very fond of non-veg and I absolutely hate fish. The smell makes me nauseaus. People find it strange that in spite of being from the GSB community, I dislike fish. My husband and older daughter eat fish out in restaurants.

actually fish taht is fresh doesnt smell at all
i used to buy fish from the fish market one at andheri west
but know i go straight to versova beach
there you will find it much cheaper[bargain hard]
i absolutely dont know of another saraswat not liking fish
but the choice of food is quite personal
being veg is quite the "in" thing right now and being veg is quite good for health 2 BUT old habits die hard

Actually I ate too much fish as a kid which put me off fish at the age of 8. I have a few among my relatives who dislike the odour of fish, an odour we can pick up miles away. One of my aunts who also dislikes fish was lucky to get married to a Deshastha. I am also fortunate that my hubby is understanding and doesn't insist on me cooking fish for him. Sometimes when I am at work my daughters fry some fish sticks but I have left strick instructions that they should eat in a paper plates and use throw-away plastic knives and forks. They should also make sure that when I come home there should not be the slightest smell of fish lingering at home.

do people in geneva eat lot of fish?
generally people in cold coumtries prefer nonveg food [2 keep body warm maybe]
but dont think fish can support this motive
we ckp`s are known 2 eat all types of good food and fish surely comes under this definition But i still like chicken more than fish.

A lot of people in Switzerland are turning over to fish because a lot of them have realised that meat is harmful, the mad cow disease, cholesterol and what not. So fish seems to be the next best option as far as animal protein goes.

FYI ..chirag..
I suppose you are in india and you think that we indians in abroad are not following our religious rituals.
Check the number of temples outside India.
I think almost every part of USA has a Hindu temple (i am not sure). Being in abroad..i visited temple more number of times than when i was in india.
For me..celebrating festivals is like ..getting connected to my motherland. I always avoid eating Non Veg on a festival. Actually i prefer eating Veg. But once ..on a Diwali day ..i ate Chicken Burger . I didnt know that it was Diwali on that day . I was on a remote island ..spending my weekend

what i meant was orthodox ritulals/customs.
Going 2 a temple is not orthdox acc to me
its not compulsory to not eat non veg on all festivals
u`ll be surprised to know how many brahmins now eat meat and that 2 on vinayaki chaturdashi!
but abiding by all set orthdox customs doesnt make one a true sanatani hindu though

I used to follow this tradition of not eating non veg on certain days, but I have given it up now. Th eonly days I avoid non veg food is during Ganpati festival. Its not like I eat non veg daily, but earlier I used to avoid it on certain days even if I felt like eating it.
