Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, who received two Purple Hearts and other military honors for his service in Vietnam, reiterated his position that the United States needs to develop a strategy to leave Iraq. Hagel scoffed at the idea that U.S. troops could be in Iraq four years from now at levels above 100,000, a contingency for which the Pentagon is preparing.
"We should start figuring out how we get out of there," Hagel said on "This Week" on ABC. "But with this understanding, we cannot leave a vacuum that further destabilizes the Middle East. I think our involvement there has destabilized the Middle East. And the longer we stay there, I think the further destabilization will occur."

Where was the dweeb when Bush made a case to go to war. At that time, they all sat twidling their thumbs becuase they would be termed as unpatriotic. Dont cry wolf once the damage is done and your skin is in the game and you cant get out.

It might become like Vietnam because of political correctness. War means going in and bombing the hell out of the enemy. Flattening it all out like Russia did in Chechnya! Thats war. Not pussy footing and letting the media run the show! A War is not a media event or a humanitarian event - its about bombs, destruction, death and collateral damage. Leaflet the Sunni triangle, then bomb it and flatten it. Intern the insurgent ethnicities. Just put the fear of God in those who want to kill an American soldier. War needs brutal tactics which the Russians know. US is too much of a sissy to let the marines and the soldiers do their job. Why? Just because some scumbags were made to wear women's underwear they had such a media ruckus and the army did not stand by the soldiers. If the US can tolerate beheadings and bombings like 9/11 but gets all worked up over pictures of scumbags wearing women's underpants then the US is doomed to lose any war in the present and future.
So as long as wars are run by politicians and not generals, there will never be success.
As to this GOP senator, I echo the same question as padhu - Where were you when the case was made? Why did you not raise your voice when the war was being fought with political correctness and not real warfare?

You are not making any sense Echarcha. The GOAL of this war was to liberate the Iraqi's(as quoted by your dear Dubya). If you flatten the country or parts of it how will that be in parallel with your stated goal? If this war's was about destroying Iraq and killing everything that moves then your response would make sense. Go back and take a look at the speeches given by Bush and his goal(s) for this war and then speak if bulldozing in Iraq makes any sense.
Maybe this war is a disaster cause its being run by a president who has never been part of one.......experience does count.... :D

I am not saying flatten the entire country of Iraq. There are a few pocktes where the militants/insurgents are causing all kinds of problems. So leaflet those areas so that women, children and innocent men can get out. Then bomb those areas and flatten them out. They can always be rebuilt.
I have been reading up on the Russian offensive on Chechnya and I am pretty impressed. The Russians still have balls to wage a war the right way!
Though I support the Conservatives, I have said it before that Pres. Bush has disappointed his core voter base and supporters like me vis-a-vis the illegal alien issue and the way the war in Iraq is being handled. War should be entrusted with generals and not the media.

You just hit on the core of the problem that the US military is facing. They cannot decipher who is innocent and who isn't. I wish they could do that cause it would save the lives of so many troops and innocent Iraqi's.

First and foremost secure the oil wells and oil pipelines. Next locate the areas which pose a problem like Fallujah. Bomb them completely. Collateral damage is part of war. Rest of the folks will fall inline. Install a general to run things. Get the people to form a government quick. If not, stop this democracy nonsense with them. Just install a general to rule and tell the folks - that they better stop infighting or else the general will keep kicking ass. Try to throw out journalists under some pretext till war is over. Otherwise lead journalists on a charade and show some sappy politically correct crap to the media while doing real opearionts Offcourse tell all kinds of stories to the leftist anti-US media like CNN and MSNBC to keep them happy while the real operations occur elsewhere. :D

Come on now guys.. you take me to be a stone hearted right wing pitbull! ;) I do have some 'Liberal' qualities like humour :D
Are yaar.. I live in Gaylifornia close to San FranFreako which is like Pervertistan. All kinds of crap goes on there and in the state in General. So I have to be on the other side and not back these Liberal nut jobs for sake of my own beliefs and sanity ;)
Well, anyway, these days I feel that Pres. Bush has good intentions and wants to do a lot but somehow he has stopped taking interest and is not doing anything for which he was elected by his Conservative voter base.
Anyway, do think of me as "a slightly less stone hearted right wing bull" :D

what makes you think that the so called bad guys will not leave along with the good ones? :D so, then US will leaflet another area and then another and flatten out the entire Iraq. :D
Actually, Americans are the bad guys in Iraq, and it is they who ought to leave that country. Bush lied to the world about WMDs and 2000 dead soldiers and ten thousands of dead Iraqies later, the mission is far from being accomplished

Iam against the Iraq war because I think that the US is fighting the wrong enemy here. No one is questioning the intent of Bush to fight terrorism, the question is which countries are having the most "terrorists and extremists" , which ones are breeding new terrorists, which ones actually have WMD's and hence need to be tackled first.
Its basically like this if you have a symptom you will figure out whats the real cause and then apply solution, in this case Iraq can never be considered as a major terrorist or extremist hub neither did it posess the WMD's.
Pakistan , Bangladesh and some Arab countries would top the list for being terrorist hotspots. Look at this , Pakistan has :
ICBM + nuclear warheads + terrorist camps + close proximity to Talibaan+ suspected hideout of Bin Laden+ hatred towards US+Islamic fanatics..... basically everything that can be considered as a major threat to the USA.
And they go for Iraq ??? doesent make sense to me.
If the fanatics take control of Pakiland whats stopping them from trying to bomb the US and India and all other infidels ? and the probability of this happening is pretty high since they are spread in the Paki army and ISI too.
