Indira Gandhi...Being a woman prime minister, never did a big of job for women of India. She never protected women dying due to dowry....She never did anything to promote women getting educated.
She used them for vote bank only.
She never protected women rights for muslim women.
She is the one, who introduced gunda-raj in the politics.
She is the one, who introduced corruption in govt offices.
She is the one, who gave us Gandhi "Dynasty".

Indira Gandhi was indeed among the most respected & credible leaders India ever had.
As for Richard. Nixon, Who was he??
That infamous leader was the only US President to resign from Presidency after facing certain impeachment for the Watergate scandal. He never stood trial for his dubious activities as President & was pardonned by his successor Gerald Ford.
The bottomline is do the words of a man of such character carry any leverage??

Now you have to evaluate what each leader did for his country....if you look objectively, both Nixon and Gandhi had an authoritarian streak that reeked of arrogance and corruption:D
Also, each leader one good thing for their respective countries..Nixon opened up dialog with China resulting in US not having to worry much from China ganging up with Soviet Union again
Gandhi broke Pakistan into two....:D...but she had an art of turning her victory into a miserable defeat...the results of which we are still suffering:D

I think I have mentioned it here long ago that I happened to meet one of the Member of Parliaments during Indira's regime. This MP was a friend of one my relatives. Thsi happened long ago when I was in engg.college. The MP is retired and out of active politics for many years.
The gist of the story abotu Indira he told was this -
When Nehru was the PM, the country was new and the politicians really had the spark in them to do something for the nation. Yes, hard to believe but it was true. Then corruption slept in slowly. However, corruption was not the way we know it. Usually 'favours' were exchanged. For instance, if a group of MPs from a certain party wanted something then the ruling Congress party would say - Okay here are two gas aqgencies and 50 telelphone lines approved for your constituency (which meant relatives or supporters). The MPs would accept this 'favour' and then vote or do what the ruling Congress party wanted.
After we overthrew the shackles of British Raj, we openly accepted the License Raj where any and every business and industry needed a license. It ws so pathetic that even the radio and TV set in yoru house needed a license. Ask your old relatives if you dont remember a license for your radio set.
The Congress party knew that they could control manufacture from pins to piano! License Raj gave Indira a very good bargaining tool. She too would exchange favours when she took over as PM.
Soon she realised that exchanging favours was not enough. So came the 'cash bribes' phase of corruption which we see today. Where did the cash come from. Oh, the indsutrialists and businessmen who wanted a 'license' for even increasing the number of widgets they already manufactured or sought a new license!
Indira was the first politician to create this whole sysytem where the lowest rung politician had to assure a certain 'collecton' which had to be sent all teh way up disguised as 'party political funds' in exchange for tickets to contest elections.
She had the courage to stand up to Pakistan. She had her good points and bad points. Anyway, she is gone and thats that.
