they won, albeit with a hugely reduced majority. with counting still under way labour's majority is predicted to be slashed from 167 seats to about 70. but despite the war and it's expected electoral backlash the labour party has won a historic third term.

the conservative party, which led a largely racist immigration campaign, was comprehensively beaten.

The Iraq war didn’t desist the Americans from voting Bush back to power last year. Now it’s the same trend across the Atlantic. The anti war psyche has died down in Europe too.

Labour victory doesn't necessarily mean that. The opinion polls consistently portray the anti-war sentiment in Europe. But 'closer-to-home' issues played a greater role. Also, Tories neither had a leader who looked like a PM nor any fresh ideas. I am glad that their 'full-of-hate' campaign is rejected.

vakil_babu how did the Liberal Democrats do ?

the liberal democrats increased their share of the popular vote a lot but this has only translated to ten more seats. they only have 60. the main reason for this is the electoral system in britain. we don't have a system of proportional representation. the liberal democrats will struggle for a long time until the system is changed.

yes, i was delighted that howard and his racist ba5tards lost :D

I think people in UK did not care so much about war on Iraq but cared more about issues being tackled by Blair's party.

In US too, Iraq did not play too much in the elections, but other issues closer to home like religion, the homo agenda played in favour of the Republicans.

I am happy that the homos did not win here.
