i am still unable to view any hindi text, inspite of setting
view -->encoding --> UTF-8

No need to download any font - that's the whole point!! We are using UNICODES!!


DB ... If you have any problem to see the posts just make sure that the view --> Encoding is set to unicode(utf-8)

dude, that setting does NOT help..believe me..

all probs disappear only when u doenload that BBC font and restart tha PC..

also ,my work PC is not set to unicode..its still on western european and i can still see them hindi alphaz..

actually, i take mah last statement back..XP browsers seem to be automatically adjusting tha encoding based on tha fonts on tha webpage..

on mah home laptop i tried everything under tha sun to see them hindi fonts but could NOT until i downloaded the hindi fonts from BBC..

What happens? you don't see any hindi, you do sometimes see it in some posts - copy hindi font and test then copy unicodes and test .. .please let me know!

What happens? you don't see any hindi, you do sometimes see it in some posts - copy hindi font and test then copy unicodes and test .. .please let me know!

i could see only boxes in your thread :D thaz tha reason why i wasnt responding to any of ur tool related threads :p

i changed tha encoding to unicode..
then tools - internet options- Fonts mein jaake benjo devanagri bhi select kiya...

jhaaNta farak bhi nahi pada :(

so i said fukk it..g marvaane gaya..

then this BBC thingy struck me..so i went to tha page i mentioned to Zorro and downloaded tha fonts and restarted mah PC..thaz it,hindi dikhai deney lag gaya mujhay :D

work PC to ekdum raapkchik hai..kuch bhi nahi kiya..saala apne aap hi sabkuch karta hai yeh :up:

Echarchaa will be the first forum where members will reply in hindi right by clicking reply button.

Amtalal, Tantu, Pelu, DB, wizard, jaispeak and many many others did excellent job testing it!

I hope this section will grow in the right direction once we add right help files and features.

Why it happen like this? because that bbc font is unicode bases true type font - that's why!

Now try this - unload (remove) the fontm, make sure that you see boxes again and upgrade the IE - set it to unicode - I believe that should work ... see the idea is to eleminate the font download step - this has to work on any OS.

I am happy that you tried BBC - now we know a work around but in our help doc we would say "upgrade the IE" if that works!

I hope you will help us test it like this! :)

abey wohi cheez se to main darr raha hoon..saala IE updates itni kameeni hoti hai ki kya bataaun tujhay..i dont wanna update mah IE on mah home laptop dude..

tha thing is it had a Windows ME OS on it and one fukkin day it crashed :D and then we installed 2000 on it..ab kaisey to bhi karke its workin..i dont wanna take no mo risks :D so IE updates r a strict NO :D

Do onr more thing Zen,

When you get time, create a drop down list of some common phrases we use here like "Kya mast hain" , "Wah kya rapchik maal hain bidu", "Abey chup baith re", "Chalo bhai main to chala", "gaand mein nahi gu, hange chale juhu", etc. so that we can simply select the phrase and post it real fast :D


kya mast hai- क्या मस्त है
wah kya raapcheek maal hai biDu - वह क्या राप्चीक माल है बिडु
gaanD mein nahee goo, hagane chale juhu - गान्ड मैं नही गू, हगने चले जुहु
abe bhusanD - अबे भुसन्ड
chal fuTTaas ki golee le - चल फुट्टास कि गोली ले

i have windows 2000 at work and nothing worked until i downloaded the fonts as DB suggested. IE bhi to upgraded hain so why did i still see boxes?

Oh really? :confused:

I am using xp pro on my laptop and home pc - it works.
I also have a linux machine at home - it works there!

I am using win 2 k at work - its working here as well.

I will try a fresh win2k on my old pc and test it! Damn - this really beats me at this moment!! I guess majority of us are able to see it. If any echarchan has any issue please let us know!

If you post the hindi font "bh" kee jahah ""T" dikhataa hai - unicode cut-paste karo to nahee dikhataa ... meraa dimaak Gandu ho rahaa hai ... this may pose an issue when we will do it the online way ... dekhanaa padegaa!!
