I know that many of you guys are staying abroad/out of india.
Just let me know ..how did you looked after your rented Apartment in US/UK or some where else.
Here ..in malaysia ..now it is very troublesome to rent an apartment for a good indian IT guy ..like me:).
You ask me ..why ??
The real estate broker was almost shouting ..
--> They never cleaned the toilet
--> They broke the wash basin
--> They didnt pay the power/water/telephone e.t,c bills
--> They made our beautifull apartment look like ghost house
--> Every weekend they booze & smoke and spoil the locality
--> They are very noisy(loud music & talking) , neighbours complaint.
They=Indian IT Engineers
Recently ..the Apartment owners here had complained to Indian High Comm here. And my observation was also very much similar.
When you live in a house ..why dont you look after it properly ..why do you spoil it ?

No problems here in Switzerland for renting apartments. However there is a common clause for all rental apartments. The apartment should be given back in the same condition that it was received. When you take an apartment it is spotless so when you give it back it has to be spotless also. Otherwise they charge you for putting it in shape.

Somehow i was  looking at your response ..BUT
THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION :D
I am pointing towards , Indian IT engineers abroad who spoil their rented apartments, maintain unhygenic environment in the apartment ,, and related issues. I personally had room mates who used to keep their rooms dirty. I was just curious how is it with my fellow eCharchans.
If you could contribute something for this thread ..you are most welcome.
Or...
Do you want me end this discussion ..that Indian IT Engineers are the most hygenic people abroad ?
GOT MY POINT ???

sab sahee hai Indian bhaisaheb
lekin ye bhi such hai ki jaate time mostly sabhee log apne aprt ko poora clean karke jaate hain...g**d lag jatee hai ismein :D
poora pristine condition mein to shayd nahin lekin uske nearbouts aa hi jata hai aprtmnt.
ab jahaan tak periodic cleaning ki baat hai to jo shadishuda hain unki to ho jatee hai (safai mera matlab hai ;)) lekin bachelors ke case mein periodic safai har week bhi ho saktee hai ya phir month mein ek baar ya phir jab ghar mein rehna mushkil lagne lage :D

i was criticising your way of putting forth the point in the thread. you have written as if your apt is the most squeaky clean one in this world. you were talking as if all others are stupid fools...bah... what did you say? "When you live in a house ..why dont you look after it properly ..why do you spoil it ? "
that is why the previous post.
whether you keep this post or delete it is none of my goddamned business.
most of the things happen to Indians living abroad (I disagree this is only the case with IT people) who come after staying in India are not versed to the ways of living here. and no one appraises them of it. so they do not know what is expected of them living in the apts.
anyways how does it matter if the apt is dirty as long as you give it back in the condition that you received? about boozing and music and all in my apts every weekends we have firangs shouting and having music till very late in night. some people have even pasted notices on their doors telling them to lower their weekend activites. This is not the prob with Indians only. it all depends on how responsible you feel yourself in the society you live.

itna bhee mich kyon ?? ek doosre ka g**nd lena hai to acchi tarah se lo !! cleanliness ka to bhai, does not depend amreeka main ho ya japaan, jo ganda hota hai woh to hamesha hee ganda rahega ..yahan bas fine ka dar se log safai karte hain. mera ek dost ka ghar gaya tha..i didnt even feel like touching the food there..the bathroom was sooooo gross, kitchen sink bhee full, upar se ek billi..chee !!
Indians pay the rent in time, make less noise (they are typically not party animals) and keep their apartments clean.
The only problem that I had once heard of, that a friend's apartment leasing company deducted form his security deposit for a speacial treatment to get rid of the "curry" flavor. Has anyone else heard of that?

eNRI,
here too general impression is good. indians are getting rented apartment quite easily.
however almost all indians are used to dry clothes in the balcony - many of the apartment ower doesn't like this. However this help us to locate house/apartment of desi!

I wouldn't say that Indian have a better reputation than the locals but they definitely have a better reputation than the Spanish, Portuguese, Latinos and Arabs (North Africans). The apartment occupied by us now was previously occupied by a Portuguese family. When we moved in we were told by the other tenants how happy they were that we had moved in and how their lives were made miserable by the Portuguese family who were not only noisy, but starting fights at 6 o clock in the morning.
... and his clothes line would go up in the balcomy whenever his parents were visiting.

I do not get the point, you are walking the dog so have to get up early. where does sacrifice for kids come into picture here? forgive me if i seem to be a stupid, but then what you said is incomprehensible to me.

me thinks that what matters is whether the person(s) renting the apt is single or not.
more often than not, those who are married have a well kept apt. as compared to single / bachelors in a group
there may be exceptions to this rule though.

then again where does sacrifice come into picture, doesn't the dog get up early as well, as far as i think no living animal would like to roused from sleep early in the morning :D so i guess dog is also making a sacrifice for you.
well, is your youngest kid male or female?

He is a male and a typical mama's boy. You won't believe it, but he wakes me up for his walk. But I don't mind at all. I was kidding about the sacrificing bit.

Baseless post Indian, I have been in that region (Malaysia, Indonesia and S'pore for over 5 years), and what I found about Malaysia is, the landlords is worst then other country, about Indian IT engineers, forget abt some tamilee(madrasies), nobody have time to stay at home ;) whole credit goes to Malay and chinese gals.
I'll tell u my experience, I had a sardarji as my landlord settled there (in Malaysia for 7 generataions). As contracted he suppose to give me full furnish apartment, but what he gave me after month of negotiations is, a 18th century TV, a broken bed and a sofa with three legs. No offense, but if u r one among the landlords like that, no doubt They (IT engineer ;) ) have full right to do so.
Indian are normally best neighbor and tenants. They keep the apts clean, bcoz don’t want to pay for cleaning while vacating. Less noisy and friendly, easy to mingle with, and those views comes from different people of different countries I have been.

risingsun,
I didnt started this thread to show off that ..my Apartment is the cleaner than all other guys here. Infact my Apartment used to be the dustbin of this country ..where i live.
I now live in a better hygenic condition and better apartment.
Previously i used to live with in a beautifull apartment with a couple of bachelors like me. The apartment when rented out to us was damn new ..and was never used before. Initially when i get into the apartment , it was like my dream house...believe me it was the best . Then it slowly started getting worst. At the end of couple of months , i was scared to step into that house. It was so dirty.
Me and one of my friend used to take intiative and used to clean the whole apartment. But we were tired of other people's way of irresponsble attitude. They thought ....Yeh log kaam karengey ..Hum maza karengey .We stopped cleaning and walked out of that apt.It is not just my case , i have observed many of bachelor's and often with married people too.
may be my degree of cleanliness is weired or something else ..but i cannot even piss in an unclean environment.
Rahul ,
U said ..u lived in malaysia ..then what do you say about palm court ?? I dare not to step into that complex. There are some good ones ..but many are bad.
Actually ..the problem is some where else ..
Every Indian IT Engineer's ultimate destination is USA , they take up their jobs in Singapore, Malaysia etc. as temporary halts on the way to USA. In the due course ..they developed a mentality ..they might be thinking that "ok ..when i am leaving this country just in a matter of months ..why should i spend so much time in cleaning & maintaining the Apartment.??"
guys ...PLEASE
i never meant to say ..all Indian IT Engineers are Dirty .
The real estate agent is saying so .
Please spare me :)

Indianji, I think the problem with most of our Indian men is that they are not used to doing household work. Back home it is either the domestic helpers or the mothers who do the work. I blame the mothers for not making their sons "mera laal" independent.

Very true ..Netra
U caught the right nerve.
male kids are always kept away from household work ..which is really wrong. I observed this habbit in 90% of Middle and lower stclass families of india.

I agree completely except for the 90%of middle and lower class comment....unless u meant that in the top 10% neither the boys nor the girls do any housework.
Actually I think the topic is kinda misleading. You have to compare indian IT engineers against equivalent social groups...ie. young men living together....another example of which is usually college students. Im sure most landlords would prefer to have a family instead of 3 frat boys. So is the hygiene of Indian ITs worse than most college apts? Iv seen some frat houses and I seriously doubt it :)
In US indian students do the same with the apartment....
but once they get jobs there is a change and the apartments are clean suddenly.
If u dont clean it, u pay for it at the end of your lease, i dont know how it is in Malaysia, but that is how it is in the US, the apartment people should charge if there is any problem with the apartments.
Booze and smoke u cant help it, either ask the apartment people to put in the rental agreement, that this is a no smoking and a no drinking apartment coz if they dont do that then they are in no position to complain.
Guys so far away from home will drink and smoke if they do..........
they cant help it, at least till they get married.

in the USA, and they were from different parts of India.
What I observed was that many folks just get overwhelmed by the freedom they have and live as they wish with no regards to others around them.
Many folks just like to live dirty as if it is still their engineering college hostel room! They dont wish to improve at all.
Even if you cannot keep your room or apartment spick and span, there should be some form of general cleanliness and order. But alas, some folks just dont learn it. One room-mate went to the extent that he would marry and then his wife would take care of things. I was amazed at how he was looking forward to a wife as a house-keeper and cleaning maid!
Anyway, not all were bad in their habits. Basically, it has got to do with the discipline one grows up with at home.

In the presence of such a caveat, nobody would be able to lease an apt :D
